Race seat needed...and...

Postby Mmagus on Sat Nov 28, 2009 8:24 am

Hi folks,

Though I absolutly love the new 924S, (and I CAN fit in it!) Morgan told me that the seat belts do not fall within the rules for AX and will need updating. Since the car already has a harness bar I'm going to go ahead and mount a race seat and 5pt harness. If anyone has an old spare sitting in the shed/garage please let me know. It can be lime green, ripped fabric, stained,I dont need pretty I need inexpensive.

I have an early Christmas present from Paul in the form of a Sparco steering wheel so I am looking for the 944 adaptor plate as well. If I am going to buy one I may as well send whatever it costs to people I know and like.

Thanks for your time

Mark:

The 2010 rules which were approved, included proposal #3 which axed the time limitation on factory (or replacement) seatbelts.
The belt(s) still need to be in good condition and properly operating, and will be inspected.

http://zone8.pca.org/rules_prop.php

for 2010, you're okay, but if you want to drive Tuffy on the 12th, check with the AX and inspection chairs - maybe you can be granted an exception.

The steering wheel is a Sparco (not Sparky) #325, which has a deep dish. Looking for the hub adaptor, Pelican Parts says "No Longer Available".

I am not sure if the later 944 hub adaptor or earlier 924 one works, or if there's another solution. Anyone on this forum know, or can help. Tim? Leigh? :?:

I have a single race seat with brackets and sliders that is made for tall drivers to get you really low in the saddle. Let me know if that might be something you would be interested in trying out.
It is out of the car now so It would be a 15 minute swap out.
That way you can use 5-point harnesses to keep you locked into place.
This seat has lower lap support so you can still use stock 3-point belts.

Paul,
Thanks for the heads up on the ruling, its good to have. I will be saving the $$ and not running him on the 12th, though we may come out just for the fun of spectating.
I have been informed that though the 924s spacer is discontinued, the 944 one fits as well and happens to be thicker so the wheel would get even closer to me, which would be great!

Steve,

While I would be willing to give any seat a go, I would say that since I am a tall guy that is exactly the type of seat I would need. I am very interested in it. I sent you a PM with my number, pop me a call when it is convenient for you to talk. (couldnt find a work email for you personally at the Dieters site so ignore my PS)

Thanks Guys!

Paul,
Thanks for the great news on the ax'ing with good condition STOCK seat belts! YAY! :D

Mark,
The 924S hub adapter for the aftermarket european steering wheels is identical to the 944 one. I believe the MOMO part # is 7004? It will fit the MOMO, SPARCO, and OMP steering wheels. You can also get spacers that make it even closer to you, but it sounds like the wheel you got from Paul is quite dished? A quick release will bring it closer and is not only racier looking than just a spacer, but also serves as a great theft deterrent when they see the car has no steering wheel! :roflmao:
I like my quick release wheel and others seem to as well. Strangely enough, I always get a very excited reaction from the people cruising next to me when I pop my steering wheel off and try to hand it to them! Go figure.....I guess I trust my car's alignment more than most people?

Ok....

...must...stop...laughing :roflmao:

Thanks Tim for a hilarious mental picture!

When my sides stop hurting I will start scouring FleaBay for a used one. (unless someone here has a spare they wish to sell)

Hey, no problem. It's what I do.
Give me a call tomorrow afternoon at the shop. 619.994.0919. I might have a spare one available. The answer to your next question is, "Cheap."
Your black 87 924S reminds me of a certain zebra car that used to hang around here.....
