Revised AX map for Saturday - CANDY LAND LITE

Postby Bill Behun on Wed Dec 09, 2009 2:06 pm

The SE lot flooded Monday.
Stadium fears it will happen next rain - some unusual drainage problem.
Stadium moved the event in the SE lot to the SW lot now.
Stadium says we have only the NW lot (above the G3 lightpole). :(
Martin will post the updated AX map soon.
Still a fun but shorter track. Means more laps. We'll try for 5-5-5 :D
Chance of rain but hopefully light and intermittent.
We'll set up the tents and bring yours if you have them. A cozy pit area again.
Enter NW lot at first gate on your right - right after you turn right from the guardhouse.

So the Autocross Sat will be on, regardless of how hard it rains? If it does get canceled, how is this announced?

The go or no-go call is usually made on-site the morning of the event, as regardless of forecasts, the conditions on the ground in Mission Valley on the day of the event will need to be seen to make the decision. If it is not raining very heavily and there is no standing or running water in the swales, the event will probably go. We have until 9am to decide whether to run or to cancel the event and get a refund from the Stadium, so it is usually left until the last minute to make a decision. This is tough on the people who drive down from OC like yourself.

Personally, the loss of the lower half of the lot makes the event a lot less attractive to me.

This is something I hear often, but it is not really true. The length of the course has no real effect on the number of laps that each car gets to run at an autox. It is almost entirely dependent on the interval left between starting cars and the number of entrants, given a hot course all day and no unforeseen delays. How long it takes for each car to run the course does not really matter, and only factors into the length of the event on the last run of the day (a matter of seconds--the time delta between the shorter and longer course).

Tom - you are right. My bad. As we have found this year, tighening up the interval between cars has a huge effect. It's all dependent on the send-off time gap and the number of car entries. We'll still try for 5-5-5 since there are no re-runs at the 3rd session.

I believe it's as follows: Just don't show up. Since you don't pick up your envelope they know you didn't drive and you don't get charged.

Bill,
Leigh Rayner and myself are the prereg people for 2010. Things are different on motorsportsreg.com, let's clear this up for next year. You may cancel yourself for an event on the MSR site BEFORE the cutoff date. After that, you can make a note to the registrars in the comment line on your registration page or just not show up. No charges for AXs if you don't show. Check out each start page for MSR as this doesn't apply to all events with our club. (some things are no refund)...
