While some of us were at Fontana this weekend, others were at Chuckwalla. Motorcycles two week ago and cars for the first time this week.
After speaking with of the guys that went out there, the summary is as follows:
1. The track is very fun with a lot to keep you busy.
2. The top speeds are not as high as one would think. Buttonwillow, depending on the configuration has a top speed of about 120-125 mph. In a 300 hp BMW 1 Series, the top speed was only about 105 mph at Chuckwalla. However, the speeds running clockwise never dip below 50 mph as compared to BW where they are lower or even Calspeedway where T3 and T9 will be down to 30 mph or so. So this might be a track where you only use 2 or 3 gears around the entire track.
3. There are several blind corners running clockwise and you have to trust they're on the other side. This track will challenge you the 1st time out.
4. The track is still very green and has possibly not cured yet.
5. The curbing is great and a lot of it.
6. The track is VERY WIDE. At 40' all around there are track out points where you won't need to go all the way out.
Matt Kogan posted a youtube video going around the track here:
