Interesting Alex Job/Fabcar Porsche

Found this on the internet the other day, thought everyone would be intrigued by this.

Not sure what class it ran in, but competed at Sebring 96'. I like the A-arm push-rod front suspension :D

I guess it would be easier for the guy to work on if the engine was behind the transmission...

That's the Fabcar built, mid engine, 993 that Alex Job ran in 1996, I think. The car was driven by Hurley Haywood, Charles Stewart, and Tom Hessert to win GTS-2 class at theIMSA Watkins Glenn 6 Hours. Very trick car! More info and pics here.

Is this truly a "Porsche"? I assume it has a Porsche engine and tranny but 95% of the rest is non-Porsche. Is a Beck Spyder a Porsche? Is a 914 with a Chevy engine a Porsche? Is a Vanagon with a 911 engine and tranny a Porsche? Was a Fabcar 944 displayed at the San Diego Auto Museum as a Porsche recently? Would the Alex Job/Fabcar Porsche be allowed to compete at the Parade concours in the historic division?-You betcha.

It ran a Hewland DG-5 transaxle and a tube frame, so the only Porsche bits were the engine case and the 993-look body parts. I think the tail lamps and rear reflector were actual Porsche parts. It's really a Fabcar, not a Porsche, though it was entered under the Porsche marque.
