If the SA2010's were out, I would already have. It makes absolutely no sense to have people go out and buy a SA2005 just because the 2010 motorcycle helmets are out. I don't want a motorcycle helmet, I don't ride a motorcycle, we shouldn't base helmet rules off of motorcycle helmets.
Very true, that is why the rule was amended to reflect this. The bottom line is ALL Snell rated helmets, whether M or SA rated as long as they are 2000 are good until December 31, 2010. The only helmets that are considered expired are Snell 1995 or older.
Don't be surprised if the SA helmets that are supposed to come out in October, 2010 are in short supply. This has been the history of Snell helmets dating back to 1995 and maybe before that. As a result, the really expensive helmets (ie. carbon fiber etc) with new SA ratings come out first and then the more affordable ones later. In the past, some clubs have said that Snell helmets are good for 10 years from their date (every 5 year numbers) PLUS 1 because of the short supplies. Whether that comes to past this October or not is yet to be seen.
My point in an earlier post is that if you have to upgrade from a 2000 helmet, wait and get an SA rated helmet for use in a vehicle, not the M rated models. It's just better for our purposes.
