Let the Race Begin: Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival Tickets Half-Price

August 4, 2010 (SAN DIEGO, CA) – The Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival will be barreling down on San Diego like a Blue Angels squadron coming out of the hot summer sky, faster than you can say "Gentlemen, start your engines." No surprise then that the race to get your tickets has begun with this weekend’s Sign on San Diego Daily Deal.

Two-day event passes, normally $30, will cost just $15 when you click the Daily Deal button at Sign on San Diego, http://dailydeal.signonsandiego.com/, from Friday, August 6 – Sunday, August 8. Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival will be held September 25-26 at the Naval Air Station North Island and promises to rock the base like never before.

Not only is Coronado Speed Festival the only auto racing venue in the world held on an active U.S. Navy runway, it’s two days packed with heart-thumping racing and military demonstrations guaranteed to delight the entire family. Landing Craft Air Cushion display, Leap Frog (Navy Parachute Team) performances, flyovers and ship tours are a few of the exciting ways the military shows its expertise over these two days.

Car enthusiasts will love the virtually non-stop racing, test drives of several car models, strolling through literally hundreds of vintage autos on display, plus Garage Tours where visitors are encouraged to freely inspect the race cars and talk with owners and drivers of these captivating vehicles. There is live entertainment available all day during race activities. Sit back and relax in the beer garden.

Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival is the flagship event of those hosted by the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation to honor San Diego’s military personnel, running this year from September 17 – October 3. Many of these are open to the public and provide an opportunity to show appreciation for the servicemen and women who defend our freedoms around the globe. Visit Fleet Week’s newly redesigned web site at http://www.fleetweeksandiego.org for all the information.

Who won?

F-15 - 58,000 ft/lbs (with afterburner), 2000 Boxster - 145 ft/lbs (peak)
F-15 - 44,000 lbs loaded weight, 2000 Boxster - 3,130 lbs curb weight
F-15 - 1.32 torque/weight ration, 2000 Boxster - 0.046 torque/weight ratio
Only a 28:1 disadvantage in torque to weight.

By comparison, a Formula 1 car is only at a 6:1 disadvantage to an F-15.

There have been a couple of Top Gear shows with cars racing jets (Bugatti Veyron vs Euro fighter, TVR vs Harrier) - they usually don't end well for the cars!

They don't end well, but despite the torque deficite, the cars start really well. They just need a short race, 1/4 mile goes to the car everytime :burnout:

I guess it isn't all about torque!

The DE last year was totally awesome. It's a real shame we can't do it again.
