Club member CD release party!

Postby Jad on Tue Jul 20, 2010 10:35 am

Some of you newer members may not know Brad Rambur as recently he has parked the Porsche and has been following his other passion, jazz music. He is really good, playing weekly at the La Costa resort and with the KIFM Lites Out concert series. But on August 19th, he is releasing his first CD at a big release party at LaCosta with other jazz greats attending. They are really fun events and we should all try to come out and support him. There is more info on his website, http://www.bradrambur.com and I will try to learn more.

This is not an official PCA event, but let me know if you might be interested in joining me. :beerchug:

Uber cool!! ..and a Porschephile too? Some folks know that I am the world's second biggest jazz fan -- so I may make it down for that party. Not that I need more than one reason to get to San Diego -- just the time to do it.

And if you feel like driving to L.A.... this weekend, July 24 and 25, is the Central Avenue Jazz Festival that I co-produce and co-host with Jose Rizo. Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars, Gerald Wilson Orchestra, Ernie Andrews, JazzAmerica, MongoRama (a tribute to Mongo Santamaria's music) and more will grace out stage for what has been called "..the most legitimate jazz fest on the West Coast".

And its free!!! See details at www.centralave.org. See the history post at Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Av ... z_Festival

Call or text me if you'd like to know more....

Here is the rest of the CD release story from Brad, plus a Grammy Award winner will be playing with him!

Short story:

Where:
La Costa Resort's Blue Fire Grill
2100 Costa Del Mar Road
Carlsbad, CA 92009

When:
Thursday 19 AUG 2010
7-9 PM (Seating begins @ 6 PM)

Long story:

32 years of this obsession of mine, many of them practicing in the basement. And one day, a guy with a couple of Grammy awards says: 'You are ready to make a record'. -- When someone like that says something like that..... you do. Thanks to the patience and encouragement of Eric Marienthal (the Grammy guy, my record producer, and.... oh yeah, one of the best saxophonists alive!!!!!!), my wife, family and friends, here it is!

The title is 'Can't put it down' (see: 32 years of practicing in the basement).

There will be 10 tunes, many written by Contemporary Jazz legends Jeff Lorber and Eric Marienthal. Many others written by Eric, me and guitarist Wolf Marshall, and some even written by my live band in the course of playing La Costa's Blue Fire Grill over the course of 3 years.

It is very important to me to have completed this for several reasons, mostly that my kids see evidence of setting out to accomplish something, and accomplishing it. One day, when I am gone (and we all will be) this work will remain. I can't tell you how satisfying it is to be able to say that..... I just can't.

Ok, that was kinda serious. Now for the Celebration part!

We are releasing the Album on the 19th of August at the plaza of the beautiful La Costa Resort!!!!!! It will be a KIFM Lite's Out Event with Mike V the Morning Show Host as Master of Ceremonies! Eric Marienthal will be performing as well as my special guest! We will be playing the entire record for you, plus several of Eric's tunes.

Please come and celebrate this with us. It was a lot of work, a lot of fun and one of my biggest life lessons. I can't wait to share the results of that experience with you.

We would be so pleased to see you, play the Album, and enjoy a beautiful Carlsbad Summer Evening. I would be honored with your attendance.

Some details about the event, location and timing:

We will have CD's for sale (and I will be there to sign them :)

Update: Sounds like the reserved seating is sold out, but there should be plenty of room for regular seating (it is free) and it should be perfect weather.

See you there!
