I've been running Kumho Ecsta MX as my street tire on my 986S for quite some time now. I've liked their combination of performance and value as a street tire. But now it's time for some new ones, and with the addition of the Ecsta XS, I thought I would revisit the issue. In reading Tire Rack's test results of this class of tire, it appears that the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 is the top pick. Does anyone have an experience with the Potenza RE-11's? The additional cost (over the MX's) is significant, but if they are worth the extra money I wouldn't have a problem with them.
Also, one of the key factors in using the MX is their symmetric tread pattern. Yes, they are directional. I run a lot of negative camber, so flipping them around on the wheel can mess with the wet traction. But extending the tire life in this manner is more important than the lost performance. The Potenza and XS are asymmetric, so this may pose other issues if I flip the tire on the wheel.
Any thoughts on Ecsta MX vs. Ecsta XS vs. Potenza RE-11 welcome.
Thanks,
Mike
