AX Taste of the Track Program

Postby Don Middleton on Tue Apr 19, 2011 11:50 am

At the last Board meeting, the much debated and long considered AX Taste of the Track (TotT) program was approved. After working out a few details with Registration, we are announcing the Program for our coming AX on the 23rd. This will become an on-going program for all AX events.

The objective of the TotT program is to provide a means for introducing member and non-members to the various aspects of autocrossing with San Diego’s PCA Region through a “guest-rider” approach that is both educational and informative. It is also hoped that the Program will encourage experienced AX drivers to become Club instructors.

Guest-rider TotT participants will be encouraged to familiarize themselves with the basics of autocrossing, track driving, track rules and event vocabulary through attending the morning tech session, track walk, driver’s meeting, corner working and riding with their instructor at appointed track times. The sponsoring instructor will also assist in the guest-rider’s education by providing additional information as desired by the participant. Participation in any specific aspect of the autocross experience will be at the guest-rider’s discretion.

TotT guest-riders must:
- Be registered and sponsored by a PCASDR instructor
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Sign the event waiver
- Obtain and wear a guest-rider wristband
- Wear an approved helmet while riding with instructor on the track
- Comply with all Club event rules

Details –
A: The guest-rider must be “sponsored” by an instructor who will familiarize the attendee with the program and AX rules, regulations, etc. Sponsoring instructors will also be responsible for securing instructors to provide rides for the guest-rider should the sponsoring instructor also have student obligations.
B: Registration of the guest-rider must be done the morning of the AX event at the trailer through Registration. Once Registration closes for the morning, no additional registrations will be accepted for that day’s event.
C: Entry Fee will be $10 and will include an approved helmet rental if needed.

Instructors, please send a note to Pre-reg (preregQ@pcasdr.org) prior to the event to advise them of your intent to sponsor a guest-rider. This is not mandatory, but it will help them in organizing available instructors for students and guest-riders.

This new program is an exciting option for AX attendees to introduce family and friends to a popular Club driving activity. Your feedback is appreciated.

I like the sound of this program. I personally have wanted to bring Friends or Family for rides in hopes to either show them what I love or inspire them to come and play with us. Thanks for this idea Don, and hope it catches on.
