Kim, thanks for the tip. I went to the station in RSF today, not the one in Fairbanks. VP Racing unleaded at the pump. 95.5 and 100 octane. I filled up 2 five gallon containers of 100 ($8.99/gal) and may try mixing it with 91 this weekend at Auto Club Speedway if my engine gets put back in the car today. Chain tensioner guide was falling apart in pieces so the engine had to come apart. Also found it needed IMS upgrade, new RMS, motor & transmission mounts, AOS, waterpump, clutch/flywheel, underdrive pulley and maybe something I can't remember at this time. Sorry I missed Chuckwalla, but the car was apart. Now I hope to have a reliable car for track events. There goes the budget for race seats and suspension upgrades :x

Greg,
Sorry to hear of the problems with the car. I hear of WAY too many of this type of problem in 996/Boxster/Caymans. Hope the repair doesn't cost as much as a whole 944!

What was the price of the 95.5 octane gas?

At Chuckwalla, the 100 was around $9, but they also could sell 95.5 at $7.50 which was simply a 50/50 blend of 91 and 100 octane. If the RSF station was at $6.50 it would make more sense to just fill with it.

Don't forget that there is a VP Racing on Ingraham Street with 100 octane, not good if you are in Escondido though!!!

Sorry to hear about so many pieces flying Greg.

There is also VP Racing at the pump in El Cajon, just South of I-8 at Mollison. If you are going eastbound on I-8, take the Mollison exit and make an immediate right (basically a right u-turn) into the gas station.

Thanks!
At $7 it is only slightly more expensive than mixing it myself and a LOT more convenient.
My 944 Turbo S REALLY likes 93 or higher octane. So, I have been manually mixing in the higher octane stuff to get at least 93, but it is a pain. It may be worth just pumping the 95.5 and enjoying the convenience AND extra horsepower! :beerchug:

My 944 turbo s makes a bunch more power with 100 octane dinosaurs in the tank, the difference between 100 and ordinary pump swill is dramatic. All it takes is a few isolated detonation events and the computer yanks back the fuel/timing setup to "lame-o mode" for ever, it seems.
Zillion octane leaded race gas doesn't seem to be much (if any) better at power production in my car than the 100 octane unleaded, and the unleaded doesn't kill the oxygen sensor.....as fast.

I buy mine in Rauncho Santa Fe, it's close to home.
