Now is the time to start thinking of nominating your picks for Time Trial and AX Driver of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Kone Killer, John Deere award (I hear Steve G is a shoe in), and Most Improved. email your confidential nominations to katina@cox.net. The Time Trial series is done and the AX series has one event left on November 26th. Think about them now and get those nominations in before the holidays lull you to sleep.

Hey, whatever happened to the AX or TT Chair Team, who are the event's Leaders, systematically analyzing the results and deciding on who is deserving of these awards? This is how it always was in the past. I'm concerned that newer people who are deserving, but fall 'under the radar' will not get considered for these awards - especially in AX - because there are more new people.

Good question. It may have been done like that in the past, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside. Katina's been doing it for the last two years so that there would be some consistent awards. Drivers seemed to like nominating who they want and voting on it at the Drivers Award Party (which will be in the private Keg Room with 160 beers on tap at the Yard House in Downtown San Diego February 4th, 2012). I believe that Katina has been working with the AX and TT chairs regarding the awards.

Everyone can analyze the results for the season at:

Thank you to Katina and all of you guys who work so hard to make the fun party happen!

As far as the awards that need result evaluation, what is the criteria to nominate/vote or be nominated?
For example,
1. Does the nominator/voter need to be a Member/Non-Member with a Porsche or is an X-Car ok?
2. Does the nominator/voter need to be a Driver with a certain number of events completed for the year in question – example 60%?
3. Does the nominee need to have driven a Porsche for all events or are X cars ok?
4. Does the nominee need to have completed 60% of the events?
5. ??

I’m sure that all people who may vote would appreciate a clear-cut criteria to follow.

1. Any member can nominate. Voting will be by ballot at the drivers award party. No absentee ballots accepted.
2. See #1 above.
3. Porsche only
4. See #1 above.
5. Hmmm.

Only the top 5 nominees will be listed on the ballots. Voting will be by fellow drivers at the Drivers Award Party.

Re: Drivers Awards Who's bright idea is a member vote?

Postby KeithV on Tue Nov 15, 2011 2:54 pm

Since when has it been members vote on most improved driver?

This has not been open for debate/emotional opinion before. Isn't this a purely results based decision?

Who decided to throw this open for nominations/debate?? Isn't this up to event chairs?

Personally, I think this decision is asinine.

Who has the authority to decide to make it an issue on which members vote?

Since the event chairs haven't seemed to care for the last few years and these awards are supposed to be for "fun", we thought we make it just that for everyone. FUN!

As for most improved or any of the other "fun" awards being results based, that's completely subjective. The only results base awards are the actual places based on time.

The best part about the members voting for the awards is that it's drivers who are attending the drivers award party, most of whom actually attended the driving events, who are voting on the "fun" awards. Who better to decide Driver of the Year, Most Improved, Rookie of the Year, Kone Killer and John Deere award winners than the attendees? They're the ones who were on the track, corner working, watching the cones fly, and paying attention to how their fellow drivers did in the events.

I was just trying to get the ball rolling and get drivers involved so that we can have even more fun at another great event.

If the event chairs would like to take back the awards and make them serious again, please do so. The fun seems to have been taken out of these already. :banghead:

Keith, at least you're fast at something. :roflmao:

Speaking on behalf of the TT team, we've always felt awards are ultimately our responsibility, and so we've always designated someone to handle them. Neil Heimburge did a great job working on this for many years, but recently it's been Katina (ably assisted by Mr. Rondeau) that has done a super job handling it for us. As with any volunteer job in the Club, I'm sure lots of members have ideas on how to do things differently and there's nothing wrong with that. We welcome feedback on all aspects of the TT program, as well as volunteers who would like to get more directly involved. Thanks to Neil and the Rondeau's for their help with awards.

IMHO, having helped coordinate the driver's dinner before, these awards have previously been discussed with the chairs. Thanks for your input Robert. I do think the AX awards are a whole different animal, though. We have lots of new, improved drivers who should be considered. This should be given some serious thought. This would also be a good time for the old chairs to inform the new chairs how to help each other and the event chairs who put on the event. This is the only thing most of us get after a year's worth of driving! It's important to the drivers, and I don't believe it should be discussed on the forum.

I agree with Jackie that the AX is different than TT because historically the AX Chairs have had this job, and there are many more people and data to consider.

This is where I am concerned that the votes and results would be a popularity contest instead of fair and documented results, which when analyzed methodically, should in most cases yield one clear result or winner - not several potential winners - or if there is a tie - give an award to both. Therefore, it is not something to be voted on by anybody. This really is only in regards to the Driver of the Year, Most Improved, and Rookie of the Year Awards only. Also,I respectfully disagree that these are "fun" awards. I think these awards are earned. I would have fun watching them be presented to those who rightfully earned them.

Maybe, the fun awards such as John Deere, or perhaps ones like MVP X-Car Driver, Hottest Hairy Legs (joke), Best Class to Watch, etc, etc. could be voted on at the dinner and would be a riot.
