Tow vehicles?

Postby Dave Diamond on Tue Feb 05, 2013 4:30 pm

Anybody have an opinion as to whether a 2001 Infinity QX4 would be an adequate tow vehicle for a race car on a trailer? It has a nominal 5000lb towing capacity, V6, recent transmission overhaul.
Thanks.

I presume an open trailer. Steel or aluminum? Big weight difference. Does the vehicle have a transmission cooler? Going up the Grapevine might be tough and at reduced speeds.

Keep your towed weight close to 4000lbs and it should work fine. For comparison I used to tow 4k with a Toyota 4runner 3.0L and it never had an issue. Climbing Baker grade with 110F outside and she was cool as a cucumber and climbed easily at 65mph. The Nissan 3.5L motor is a workhorse that will serve you well. Just stay well below load limits.
