Tech Inspection Workers needed: Sign up here!

Postby Steve Grosekemper on Mon Jul 15, 2013 8:39 pm

Several years ago we had a huge corps of tech inspection workers. But people have moved away or moved onto different events and we need to repopulate our army of workers.

There are positions of every level and while mechanical knowledge is desired; it is not required. We also need people to fill out sheets while inspectors have their hands deep into vehicle inspections. We need people to assist with paperwork and hand out preregistration envelopes and get people to sign the waiver. We even need people to direct cars into the correct lines and make sure everyone has the correct forms filled out.

So what I am saying is you don’t need to be a Porsche technical expert, you only need to want to help.
This is a great way to serve your club and meet people. You will have met everyone once you are about 3 autocrosses in. This is also a great way for couples, parent/children and best friends to serve as there are many positions that work in teams.

We used to put on a tech inspection school but that is hard to get everyone to attend and then people who join later are left out in the cold until the next school. (Not saying we won't have a school, just not now).
Now the training is more like an on-line driving school.
I will send you all the study information required and I am available to the team for questions at any time.

This is what is expected of you:
-Show up at the autocross and be at tech line ready to work by 6:30.
-You will serve for between 60-90 minutes on average.
-Read the competition rules so you are familiar enough to find what you need when you need it.
(You will not have to make pass/fail calls; the tech chairs do that after secondary inspection).
-Read the tech inspection handbook so you know how to properly inspect a car and know what to do when you find something out of the ordinary.
-Wear your super cool tech inspector’s hat and/or T-shirt with pride.
-During the day you will likely be asked tech questions by members. If you don’t know the answer, just guide them to where they can find the answer.

This is what you will get in return:
-Super cool SDR Tech Team gear… you will be the envy of all your friends.
-I guarantee you will dramatically increase your personal Porsche knowledge.
-You will work with a great bunch of people and learn the names of another 100 members.
-You will get to see the trick modifications of all your competitors and copy them if you desire.
-Did I mention the really cool Tech Team gear?

So if this sounds like something you would like to do send me an email stating:
Name, car number and car type if you drive at the events and what run group color you usually run in.
Give me an idea of your technical level or other strengths like organizational qualities.
Also let me know if you want to volunteer for AX, TT, DE or all performance driving events.
We are currently looking for at least another 12 volunteers.

Send the email to techadvisor@pcasdr.org
I will get study materials off to you after a few days.

All the secret meetings happen after you leave Tom.
Try bringing a Porsche and sticking around a while. :)
