Where's the autox trash talk?

Results have been posted for a day already and there has been no discussion of the 8/19 autox yet?!?!? No comments on the course? What about the .7 second whooping Martin put on the KP class? Where are the excuses?

How about 3rd TTOD for Christy Copeman in her new car? And 9th TTOD for Tami Ibbetson! I dare say that if Denise Dente had run, we would have had 3 women in the top ten for the first time that I can remember at an SDR autox.

Good jobs by Kris Urquhart and Jeff Cook getting into the top ten for the first time. These guys are showing a lot of improvement! Jeff was one of my students at the PDS not long ago, and now he pips me by .02 for the 10th top time.

John Kincaid finally gets his first 944 Spec win with a car that's not even prepped to the max. Way to go JK! What happened to Ms. 944Spec? Did that exploding battery slow you down, Jackie?

Tami needs to be pealed off the ceiling. Even though I'm biased, getting in the top 10 and 14th BRI after 15 autocrosses is a truly great accomplishment.

Martin had to go and raise the bar in KP once again. All new suspension, LSD and new Victoracer's put him well over the top especially on a fast track. No excuses - he had us beat all day long.

Jad's adventure away from the unofficial spec KP tire (RA-1's), has netted him a set of Nitto's that he would rather run on a street sweeper. (The Toyo's were on back order for months)

It was a great day on a keeper of a track.

What do you mean "unofficial"??? I was informed early on that RA-1s were mandatory for KP. In fact, I plan on moving up to KI when I switch to R-888s next year.

Kudos to David K for throwing such a KP friendly track.

I haven't heard anything more than really vague rumors about the R-888 coming to the US market. If it does, I'm sure it would get added as an 'optional' KP tire.

If the new weight rule goes through next year, one of two things will happen; I will be much more competative in KP or there will be a bunch more KI cars. All depends if those KP cars that are 'sooooo KI' move up to KI or drive around with sand bags under their seats.

Autocross team: Great job on another well run and designed track. It was fast and tons of fun. Suggestions for future AX events: I think we should try to find a way to get the most experienced PCA'ers to corner-work during timed runs. I have seen corner-workers on the phone or taking their sweet time picking up cones. Personally, I constantly check if cones are still in the box and re-chalked if necessary at least between run groups. On the radio there seemed to be some questions on what a do when a cone is half in/out the square box. During my timed runs I avoided a cone that was laying on the track which was probably the one that was added to my time

I am also planning to go to KI next year, but running on V710's

It used to be that way, with the fastest, most experienced two run groups always corner working the timed runs. But there were complaints about that. A lot of those people didn't want to always be corner working at the end of the day. So we moved to the current rotation system.

I think part of the problem is that corner working during practice runs is considered fairly unimportant, and so new and less experienced members don't ever really learn what corner working is all about. So when it's their turn to work during timed runs, they take their time picking up cones, etc. The solution is not to go back to the old system, but to ensure that corner working during practice is run almost the same way as during timed runs. And it's up to the instructors to teach this when they go out with their students during corner working.

Here's my story and I'm stickin' to it. I consistenly was beating the Spec group (without Chuck Sharp) by a full second all day. Yes, the exploding battery helped me miss my practice run and almost my first timed run. There was flowing battery acid (even though it was a gel battery, once it's that hot, it's pretty loose) flowing from my dash to the passenger seat floorboard. We stuffed a towel in the battery compartement and I finished timed runs. After the tow homeI was diagnosed with a burned airway secondary to sulphuric acid inhalation. Although I'm happy to see John Kincaid's smile for 1st place (See photos for event), I'm an idiot so don't do this at home kids! So pysched for Christy and Tami. They are excellent drivers and are reaping the rewards. You go girls!

Yes, I agree it is only a rumor, but the 18" sizes listed on Toyo's website are all 10mm wider, so if true that would bump me up to KI. I have a stockpile of RA-1s to get me through the end of the year, just in case.

Even if the rule does not get changed officially, I will still move up to KI, so I can take even more weight off w/o having to worry about interpretation. Plus I could really use adjustable sway bars.

Yikes, 5 of the top 10 overall are KP and 5 of the top 15 BRI are in KP, fun class.

Watch out, my Toyos are sitting on the front porch, so the stinking Nittos will hopefully never see a timed run again

For anyone interested, I tried the Nitto NT-01 R compound tires when the Toyos were on backorder. They ride very smooth and have a very agressive looking tread, BUT seem to be a solid second slower than the RA1's. I will be back on the RA1's at the next event, and if I am competitive again, it will prove to me the Nittos are no good. Can't tell on wear yet as they just have two AX's, but they look pretty good still. May work as a street tire, but they cost more than the RA1's and I certainly do not recommend them from the data I have thus far.

Erik was driving the same brown '84 Carrera with 3.6 transplant that his Dad built and he has won TTOD with several times this year. I think the 993 listing in the results is a mistake, left over in the computer from when he drove the MOM 993 race car a few events ago. He was co-driving with the new owner, Christy, who came in 3rd.
