Round table discussion of the DE & TT program

Postby Robert on Sun Dec 12, 2010 8:35 am

Given the interest on the forum with respect to the DE & TT program I'd like to propose to host a round table discussion at my home in Del Mar where any interested forum participant can come, ask questions, share ideas, or just listen to what others have to say. Many interesting ideas have been proposed on the forum, some of which may be workable, others may not be, but by sharing information and approaching things with an open mind, perhaps we can make some positive changes.

Those who are interested please PM me with your general availability (days of the week and times of day that work for you). Given that the holidays are approaching, if there are specific days during the holiday season that don't work for you, be sure to mention that. Once I have a sense of the availability of those interested, I will announce the time here. This is not a sanctioned PCA San Diego Region event, just a group of people who are interested in making a driving program be the best it can be getting together to talk. Happy holidays!

Good idea Robert. I think we are all interested in making the TT program better and also more accessible.

I hope there will be no egg-nog.

That sounds like what Martin did last DE at Chuckwalla.
He relates he lowered the price from $150 to $130 but he needed 5 entries to make the price reduction work.
He got 14 drivers.
I'd enjoy seeing the guys at a round table.
Regardless of the outcome this year my 74 RSR look may only participate in a couple of PCA DE days.

Fwiw I just picked up a track prepped Z06 and may run it with the 2011 Cal Club Speed trails Corvette Challenge.
The Challenge is run during the Speed Trails DE.
So instead of managing a track day they were able to instead use their resources to bring on sponsors that provide gift certificate awards/incentives to Corvette Challenge entries at each event.
That might be a way for SDR PCA to avoid the liabilities of renting tracks.

will there be color groups assigned before the event? I would like to hear more of how the DE is going to be run. Any thoughts?

The number and type of run groups will be announced at least one week prior to the event. If you sign up now, you effectively give input on your preference. If you wait until it's announced you take (or leave) what's offered based on those who voiced their opinion by signing up ahead of time. If you sign up and change you mind post announcement you may cancel at absolutely no cost.

Note, this is no different than what has always been done in the past. SDR track events have always configured run groups and schedules based upon supply and demand.

will the color group that a driver is placed in be determined by experience( as it is done in zone 1). I am thinking about attending the event, just not sure if I will have the car ready. I am also trying to see if there will be a need for instructors.

Run group placement is determined by: 1) What event you sign up for (DE or TT), 2) Driver experience, and 3) Car. We can always use qualified instructors.

Several people have notified me that they cannot attend tonight due to weather. Thus, the meeting is rescheduled to Tuesday, January 4 at 7 pm. If you had RSVP'd already, please PM me to confirm that you've seen this and that you can attend on January 4 instead. Thanks and happy holidays.

The only thing that scares me more than egg nog- is watching you drink it.

Clearly wet hair is not an issue for you dan... Just wipe the water off your mellon with a dry wash cloth and you are ready to go...

Actually my hair keeps the rain off the rest of me so no risk of melting.
I had the F-150 loaded up and ready to go splashing through the puddles...
Have to find someone else to blame for this one.
