Looking forward to seeing the PCA crowd at the track.
We'll miss the 60+ PCA track guys/gals at Big Willow the same weekend. :(
Racing at Coronado will be like having air conditioning in the race car. 8)
Stop by or give us a wave if you are in our Porsche 911 pit area.

FYI There will be a large race car display downtown Coronado Thrusday afternoon too.
If you like to combine social and race weekends just 10 minutes from home then this is for you.

Big thanks to PCA member Martin R for the vintage graphics! :beerchug:

So Mike--you're running the 911 in the vintage races? For some reason, I thought maybe you were entering the new "1988 Protofab Camaro, Trans Am race car" that recently showed up in your signature file.

Thank you Tom, hope to see you at Coronado. 8)
Maybe you should enter???
As a retired Navy atc based at North Island (NZY/CV61) I find visiting the base interesting...
Racing on the airfield priceless. :D

next year maybe I can bring the Camaro.

Friday morning practice laps will include free rides for active military. 8)

http://www.hmsausa.com/events/next.html

"Coronado has always been a special event and a special privilege we are afforded. No where else in the world are race cars allowed to participate on an active military base. This year is especially unique as the Navy is celebrating the anniversary of Navy Seals which were born at NAS North Island Coronado! We will also be celebrating the great cars of Carroll Shelby.

Please keep this in mind when considering participating at the Coronado Speed Festival; the "Race at the Base" exists to entertain the men and women of our armed forces. There is no better way or place to thank these brave military personal for the job they do than sharing your car with them".

Just another San Diego Navy story... :D

fwiw I was a NAVY air traffic controller stationed at North Island on the USS Ranger and at FACSFAC.
FACSFAC located on the base is the radar controlling facility for Warning area-291 other wise known as the Pacific Ocean from TJ to Santa Barabra.
So it thrills me to get to race on the base.
Friday morning from 8am to 11am its open track for practice and at the same time free rides for active duty military.
I have been told there is a line for the entire 3 hours.
The most riders at a charity track event I have had in one day was 11 so I hope to double/triple that record Friday morning.

At a PCA Q AX track walk I met PCA member Don Auten author of Roger Ball.
Roger Ball is about "Hawk" a Navy F-14 pilot/rio and XO/CO of Top Gun at Fighter Town Miramar back in the day.
For driver name I used AC2 "moth".
AC2 is Navy talk for air traffic controller 2nd class and moth was the name given to me by "Hawk".
Hawk was my boss on the USS Ranger.
Don wrote a very nice book about "Hawk" and how he helped advance Navy air combat.

I think I will be getting passed often, as my 911 is in with some fast cars in Group 7.

HI PACSDR members and ZONE 8 Enthusiast.

During the Fleetweek Coronado Speed Festival, We have an offer from the US NAVY for tours aboard the USS Halsey (DDG-97). The USS Halsey is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, The commanding Officer is a PCASDR member.
See the PCASDR Hospitality tent for a schedule and sign up sheet. (It is free, but we need names for clearance)

Look forward to seeing you in Cool Coronado

Fun event and the PCA tent and parking area were full this year.
I'd like to see the SDR PCA support the military 100%.
We can do this by never again schedule competing TT events.
70 Porsche racers at Big Willow on the same weekend sends a poor message to our military. :surr:
It compromises our numbers and support for our Military and the Fleet Week Race on the Base. :?
Link to Sunday race Group 7 in car video.
A red 73 RSR ($800k) and Les Werling in his Lynn St James Kelly cup Capri made it interesting.
I finished tenth, mid pack. :burnout:

Yes, it would have been ideal to have been able to go to Coronado and have the Willow Springs TT another weekend. :banghead:
I have been attending the event since the first year and miss taking pictures on the track.

We have tried to resolve the problem and have tentatively moved the event to the last weekend in September next year.
Now if someone could let the Speed Fest know not to use that weekend it will be great :D

Unfortunately we are at the mercy of Willow Springs for the dates they are willing to offer us and The Coronado Speed Fest's scheduling plans.
There is more to supporting the military than attendance at the Coronado Speed Fest.

But as noted above "Fun event and the PCA tent and parking area were full this year" there was plenty of turnout from PCA.
Another 70 racers trying to fit in the tent may have been crowded :surr:

Coronado is always the last weekend in September, except this year with 5 weekends this month...maybe the U.S. Navy and Fleetweek can move their date around SDR.

It was however a great place to be in the heat this past weekend.
