I live in Escondido and I have tried the 15N> 57N >210>14 route twice, typically leaving SD about 1-2. I figured all freeway route might be faster even if it deals with east LA traffic. Even if the southern portion is clear (not often) I found the 14 sucks. It has been bumper to bumper nearly the whole way each time during 4-6PM.

I know my travel time is mostly prime time but I'm going back to the 15 to 138 route.

Being on the 210 at this point can save 1 hour or more. (And... yes, I have sat in an hour plus traffic at the 5/405 merge, to then look in my mirriors and see no one on the 210  )

Some people prefer 5 -> 605 -> 210 -> 14. But everytime I try that the traffic from Fullerton to the 605 junction bites. So I get off the 5 earlier.

John Payne will swear up and down that the 405 is always good. But 9 out of 10 times I've taken the 405 to get through L.A. it sucks!

Mike:

Does that route (57, 210, 14) go as far as, or through, Pasadena? If so, does it jam up in Pasadena? I've never thought of that route before... sounds interesting. I've hit major traffic in Pasadena, but usually during rush hours in AM and PM. Just curious.....

Dan -
I'll give you my thoughts on the 210. Yes it goes through Pasadena and in my experience it has been busy at the South end but not totally backed up.

Oops, sorry Dan, did not mean to ignore your question. So yeah, what Pete said. There is a little slow traffic in Pasadena right where you have to get off the 210 to stay on the 210 (Yeah, I hate L.A. freeway intersections too).

I take 5 to 605 to 210 to 14. No crazy interchanges, pretty easy driving. The only bad part is about 7 miles on the 605 before the 10 interchange. The 5 to 57 to 210 to 14 route works too but it's a bit longer and I haven't seen any improvement in travel time.

Well, Mikey, since you involved me in this discussion, MY $ .02:
I've converted from using both (15 to 138 to 14) and (405 to 14)to 5 to 57 to 210 to 14 on the way up (this is usually during the am and pretty much assures me I'll be avoiding any L.A. related problems). On the way back I take the same way I came up if I leave the track late afternoon. If I leave after dinner, I take 5 all the way back--it's the shortest distance and there's no faster route.
See y'all up there. I'll be goin' up Thursday afternoon for T/T Fri. Let's hope for some better weather than forecast right now!!!
