The difference between shaved and un-shaved toyos is about 3 seconds.
You'll find the best pricing through the authorized toyo tires motorsports dealers. These dealers offer shaving.
Everybody else has to buy them from somewhere else and mark them up. Very few tire stores have a tire shaving machine because it's a motorsports thing.
The nearest motorsports dealer is Bryan Shackelford and he can be reached at 480.421.8270

David,

Don't feel bad. I got nailed for $660 for two RA-1's shaved at Infineon. I think it is called greed and padding upper managements year end bonus!

I just talked to Bryan Schackelford 5 minutes ago and he told me that there had indeed been 2 price increases during 2006.
One in July for 3%
One in Oct for 3%
For a whopping 6% total increase........
(sound of crickets)
For every $100, you pay just $6 more....
When I figure in the factor of how long the Toyo's last, I can live with that. BTW, Bryan has been keeping the 944 spec tire at last year's prices because of the volume he experiences.
Bryan's prices are still lower than other west coast toyo dealers.
The Kumho's are a faster tire. No doubt.
The Hoosier's are even faster.
What I mean is....they're faster at wearing out!

Yes I can shave tires.

I will be at the autocross tommorrow in the morning. Please stop by if you have questions.

Hey Guys,

The rumor is true I'm nolonger with Chapman. I am still doing race tires and have no plans of stopping.
Yes there has been 2 price increases from Toyo this year. I have only passed on 3% thus far for the year and will only pass on 1.0% to 2.0% this next year on certain sizes.(yes I will eat the other %) I have for years tried to keep the pricing as low as possible and still will contiue to do so.
Remember, there are people out there that sale Toyo's, but very few are authorized by Toyo to do so. You can always check with Toyo to find an authorized motorsport dealer.
Feel free to call me for pricing or questions.

The wheelstore is an authorized Toyo Proxes RA1 dealer. I was actually involved with the development of the Ra1 when I worked there from 1991 to 2000. The RA1 was in fact the first tire that Toyo had me in charge of!!!! I oversaw the design, testing and development of the Ra1 from compunds to tread design to sidewall construction back in 1991!!

I am proud of the design of this tire because I developed it 15 years Ago!!!!!!

If you want to make the tire work right talk to the guy who was involved in the design from the beginning!! Back then I was young, skinny, starving SCCA Improved Touring racer who wanted a fast tire that would last a long time!!!

WHOA there Joe.... No one is saying you are not a dealer nor trying to attack you in anyway.... There are some people out there that are not....

This thread was started by RACERS looking to contact ME and about price increases that Toyo has done this past year, so after many calls over the last few days, I thought I would let everyone know that I'm still here selling RA1's and if they had any questions, feel free to contact me.

This is not an agurment over the tire's construction or ability to run as a race tire. This is about some people trying to locate my shop.

Postby mschacht on Tue Jun 05, 2007 8:59 pm

The Tire Shop at Buttonwillow has a supply of RA-1 shaved tires. The last tires I got from them were rated 100. :D
