"KP due to 6 insignificant points"

A place to hang out and discuss all things Porsche.

Just to clarify....
(I know this was supposed to be a thread about KP points!)
Our 944 spec cars really shine at a track like Buttonwillow where there's a premium placed on handling. Ask Martin how fast I ate him up coming through the bus stop and Riverside....
Anyway, Most guys run front springs of 400 lbs., and I can build cars to sell for around $12,000, which includes me buying the donor car. Others have spent much more, and of course you can do it yourself for less. I'd be happy to coach people through their own build because it would get more drivers into the class, which equals more fun!
And that's really what I sell. I don't sell cars, I sell fun.

I remember and was surprised to see the yellow 944-Spec with Tim's smile in my mirrors. I couldn't stay flat out due to my rear end drifting away thru Riverside and you took me flat out on the insde.

Please tell me it was after you cleaned the marbles out the airbox

Valid point, but can I have Carl Scragg's JS Carrera or Team Young's IS 911SC for this comparison?

Carl's is a Euro 3.2 motor, so no you can't!!

Actually, if you want to compare those cars and then get into Curts newly remodeled AM car, be my guest...

Please help me understand someting here....a KP car even at Buttonwillow which has been considered in this thread anyway as a handling track is between 13 and 15 seconds faster per lap than the fastest 944 spec car...this according to the track records page.

It's not Martin's fault.......
In the hands of a capable driver, which Martin certainly is, the spec cars can carry so much speed through turns it ain't funny.
There was more drama to that pass than meets the eye. I was coming up on Martin fast, when he started oversteering about 2/3's through the turn, and I was already at the limit! I HAD to lift to keep from contacting him, and that put my car somewhat more sideways, changing from a drift to oversteer. No problem. We both got our rear ends back under ourselves and I believe he waved me by?
Martin later exclaimed that I was a really fast driver, but I told him, as Stevie G. points out, alot of it was the 944 platform.

Oh there is not doubt that we get faster lap times in KP, but I think what Tim is saying is you can have alot of fun in a 944Spec car and in some parts of the track they are actually just as quick if not faster.

Mark Foley is another one who was dancing with a big smile behind us at Willow thru Omega.

But all this will change this year, KP is moving to KI in 2007. If the spec cars are still catching up I eat my helmet

IMO the 944Spec series is out of control and has no unified leadership from org to org (imagine that) - there are POC/NASA racers that have a minimum of +35K invested in dyno tuned engines and custom DMEs to entry level newbie’s at 12K. It ain't a very level playing field and obviously the Big Boy$$ are winning.

On the other hand the POC has started a Boxster Spec series that has a couple of different levels. The group that want to race at $10K-16K w/ a "no touch" clause on the engine and other parts - caps you out at a certain $$ amount and uses the same upgrade parts. If you want to spend more there is I believe another level, but at least the playing field is a little more level than the 944 series.

The intention of a SPEC series is an affordable (is there such a thing in racing) and practical way of getting into wheel to wheel racing, however, there needs to be clear concise rules and limits to what you can do.

The POC Boxster Spec is on the right track and the 944 series should follow their lead and deploy a similar regiment when it uses the term "Spec".

I was looking at the Time trial recorder in our SDR TT series. here is the link:

I guess you guys do not drive those events, you look to draft during a race and get your tires really warm to set your records :)

Got it, Kary. Thanks.

Zulu,
I'm not sure where you're getting your info from? The class isn't out of control. No one has spent 35K on the engine and dyno tuning of the chip inside the DME. That sounds like the whole car plus a lot of ongoing testing a la Mikael Weitze. Marguglio had the most expensive chassis, custom built for him with everything including graphics for around $27,000. I'm the guy who brought the class to SoCal, got it introduced to the POC through a couple other guys, got it introduced to PCA, then Zone 8 so I kinda know what's going on. The cars are actually selling for $12-15K.

The Boxster class is fine. We still need a spec 911 class, too.
Pick your price point and come racing.

Jad, Martin,
so you are moving to KI? What did you do? Like you would tell me...
That means I will have to move as well then. I'll find something to add to my 19 points so I bump out, since I really enjoy the challenge driving with you guys.
