Tom T,

Yes, you are correct. I read "Modified", but wrote "Improved". :banghead:

Then please put in in writing and tell us where to find it if other than under rules clarification.
http://zone8.pca.org/rules/2010/Clarifi ... 202010.pdf

Then the tech team can have it handy at the event to help educate the drivers with M helmets.

Yes,
please put it in writing somewhere. I showed up three months ago at the AX with my M2000 helmet and was told that I had to rent one for the day (which I did) and buy a new helmet. I promptly went out and bought a new one, but my wife is coming along this time and it would be nice if she could still use her M2000 helmet through the rest of the year.
Thank you!

This isn't quite right either, AFAIK. I believe you should say "Modified class and above" not "Improved" class in this statement, Chuck. The rules say:
If it is a Snell M rated helmet and the occupant is required to wear a driving suit, then the occupant must also wear a nomex balaclava (headsock).
Then they state:
Time Trial and DE Entrants in all Modified and higher classes are required to wear approved driving suits, gloves, shoes and socks.
So Improved class does not require a fire suit, by my reading, and thus would not require a nomex hood w/a Snell M-certified helmet either.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

That's the way I read it too, Tom.

Wow I am glad I asked! So if I read this right I am okay showing up with my M2000 since I am not in a modified class( I will be classed as novice in my 79 SC) and will be okay with that helmet until the end of the year???? Can someone with the proper authority confirm this?

I am okay with whatever the decision is. I do not have time to shop for a helmet before the event; if its not acceptable I need to withdraw my entry.

Thanks!

Mario and everyone else with a Snell M or SA2000 helmet: Your helmet is still good until 12/31/10.

Unless your an avid motorcyclist, I strongly recommend that you replace your 2000 helmet with a SA2010 helmet instead of the M2010. The M class helmets are engineered more for impacts consistent with motorcycle falls where the SA ratings are better for the applications used in vehicles.

Thanks for the clarification on the helmet, looking forward to saturday! I have been through tech with this car a few times for auto-x and have not had any issues, most of the car is recently rebuilt. I tried to print the tech sheet but the file won't open for me. I will make sure I get there early.

Aren't there helmets that are rated for both M and SA?

If I CANNOT go out and buy a SA 2010 helmet, then the current model(SA2005) and previous(SA2000) should still be legal.
If the SA2010's were out, I would already have. It makes absolutely no sense to have people go out and buy a SA2005 just because the 2010 motorcycle helmets are out. I don't want a motorcycle helmet, I don't ride a motorcycle, we shouldn't base helmet rules off of motorcycle helmets.
