Does this apply to a factory RSR front strut that already has the relocated spindle height? Also, is there any reason why replacing the torsion bars with coil overs will not cost you any more points than having aftermarket torsion bars? There has to be some additional benefit that coil overs have over torsion bars considering the allowable increase in spring rates, etc.

You may have spotted a loop hole or two here. The way the rule is written, you will not need to take welding points for the factory RSR strut. Also, no additional points for converting to coil overs vs. beefing up your torsion bars. Perhaps we need some proposals to handle these two cases?

A few thoughts to "technically" answer a few questions.
Modifications are assessed from a "stock" base US model car.
RSR is a racecar and because the factory made the part doesn't make it free.
They make a 993 engine but it is still XXX points to put one in my 911SC.
So raised spindles are assessed points under the "weld" rule. And no one is putting real RSR struts on they are modifing stock struts.

33mm hollow torsion bars are huge. We don't assess more points for 26's over 33's so why would we for coil overs?
BTW- Coil overs must have chassis bracing and that is Machining/welding so in effect you will have to take another 20 points anyway.

So why are we trying so hard not to use the GGR modification points system. It seems fair and it also gives points for things we never do, exhaust, chips, other ignition systems, etc... Also a number of the weight issues are addressed in points for interior and window modifications. Plus the suspension points are easy to tabulate.

Suspension mods are a little tricky to point out and can easily become very complicated. The goal probably should be: How much grip/lap time improvement do these mods really represent relative to other mods, and do optimized torsion bars return similar benefits to coilovers? A few of you with lots of seat time in these cars can probably come to some good clean performance points decisions here. I am in favor of simple rules that are easy to understand and scrut. with some allowable variation within a car class.
