Toyo RA1?

All:

Please send me an e-mail (info@group9motorsports.com) over the weekend of what sizes and how many tires you each want. I cannot make any promises about pricing but I will work on it Monday and Tuesday and let all of you know what is possible. If we get enough sets it may be worth a fair amount of savings.

Postby Rsylvestri on Fri Feb 18, 2005 5:49 pm

I would be game for a group buy also. Having my 15 x 7 cookies media blasted as we speak. I would need 4- 205/ 50R x 15's.

Jim Knoke wrote:The best prices I have found are with BMW_Wheels@ChapmanChoice.com, which is associated with a BMW dealer in Scottsdale. They will shave ($15), although I may pass on that option. They say the tires are available, although I don't know if that means they are in house or they would have to order them.

Heads-up everyone! When I bought my tires from Chapman, the seller said he'd give a group discount of 20% for a 24-tire purchase, plus reduce the price of shaving (if you shave them), AND pay shipping. I paid about $158.00 per tire plus shaving and shipping, for 235/40/17's (I think that's the size). They were shaved and shipped in 3 business days.

So, 6 people ordering together will get the killer deal from Chapman. Call or write them.

Ok, here is what I have to work on next week for a group buy:

Bill I. - 4 x 255/40/17
Jim K. - 4 x 245/45/16
Glenn M. - 2 x 235/40/17 & 2 x 275/40/17
Jad D. - 4 x 275/40/17
Rick S. - 4 x 205/50/15

Are there anymore? The more we have to the better the price!

Given the sizes above without a group buy discount I know I can get pricing of:

205/50/15 - $140/tire & $150/tire shaved
245/45/16 - $165/tire & $175/tire shaved
235/40/17 - $185/tire & $195/tire shaved (special order size)
255/40/17 - $160/tire & $170/tire shaved (special order size)
275/40/17 - $175/tire & $185/tire shaved

The special order tires just take a bit longer to get. Having shaving and heat cycling added into the mix really complicates negotiations with distributors so it would be better if everyone would be happy with full depth tires without heat cycling.

The other issue is I would have to add CA tax to this deal which might hurt the deal once shipping is added in. I will let you all know when I have some numbers.

Kary-
If this is the undiscounted price, and you can get a deal like Dan quoted from Chapman (20% off and free shipping), I would be interested in trying a set of these. I would also make the 6th person, for the 24 tire minimum Dan mentions. I would take them unshaved and non-heat-cycled.

Kary, don't forget to ask about delivery time as well all need them by CFOS or whatever it is called.

Thanks for looking into this and let us know as I need to order tires soon either way.

Jad, still looking into things. Have not received answers from a few places. I think they had Monday off or else they don't care. I will let everyone know no later than Friday what I have come up with.

Just and FYI. Chapman BMW is going to have a truck out at PIR this weekend. So if you are doing the AZ region's DE or Club Race you can get some RA-1's installed.

A great place to get tires is from Vilven. They do most of the trackside support for Kumho, Hankook and Toyo at races. They shave tires all day every day and warehouse things. It is the Tire Rack for racers...

Their number is 888-775-8646

Four of what size? I am not coming up with a generic price, I am specifically obtaining pricing for sizes people need. At this point I am working with 6 sets of specific sizes.

Toyo Tires.........great stuff.

If the deal with Kary doesn't work out, keep in mind that there's a difference between some "Joe's tire store" and an authorized Toyo Tires Motorsports Dealer. Here's the list of 2005 authorized Motorsports dealers. Each of them has the capability to shave tires.

http://veloce.nasaproracing.com/news/toyo_dealers.pdf

I use Chapman BMW in Scottsdale, AZ because:
-they always have my 225/50/15's in stock,
-Out of state (no sales tax, without going across country!)
-they charge $8 per tire to get them to San Diego in 2-3 days.
-Bryan, the dealer, is knowledgeable, quick, friendly.
I pay just $128 per tire plus shaving. I always get them shaved because I ran unshaved and shaved sets back to back and went 3 seconds slower on the unshaved ones! Same car, same driver, same day, same track (AMP, Phoenix).
Toyo Tires has a new deal this year where if you finish in the top 5 of a NASA class, you get tires rebate checks.
Sweet deal!
