Set of 4 RA-1's arrived today from Bryan Shackelford. $151 each, $12 shipping, $15 shaving.
Don't call him, I got his last RA-1's for a 944spec car.

R-888's, 225-50 X 15 are $153 plus $12 shipping. No sales tax.

Per Rich at Discount Tire in Rancho San Diego,

RA1’s - good luck finding them! Nothing in spec sizes or the 245-45-16's.

BFG R1’s – 225-50-15’s $189 each, no freight, $10 Mount and Balance if you mention that your with the Porsche Club. Tire Rack is $191 + freight. The tire's aren't spec legal. You would need to use the R888's and Rich will work with you on price if you want those. Rich is the manager and a good friend who always takes care of us. Let him know that I sent you there.

For the no spec tire, the BFG GForce R1 has been my tire of choice for the past 2 years. Wears great and I just bought a couple of sets for $500/4. 225/50/15s. Shop around on line and then visit your favorite tire guy to see how badly they want your business.

I just bought a few sets from Bryan, he told me that as long as they are legal to use in spec miata and there is demand they will keep making them. I also confirmed this with toyo at the LBGP.

Screw the 888's hated them. I used them one race and threw them out.

According to the INTERNET (always an unassailable source of information), the official tire for spec miata is now the 888's in 205/50/15. Maybe they made an allowance to use the RA1's?? but it is a different size so I wouldn't think that would help generate a supply for 944spec.

Just got an email from Brian at Toyo's only in AZ... I asked him if we can still get RA1's in 225/50/15 and his response was..

"No issues. Let me know how many you want!"

It's experimentation time! I just purhcased a set of Toyo R1-R's for the "street" in 225/45/16's. These are rated at 140-treadwear, but according to Steve at C-2 Sports: "If you like the RA-1's you're gonna love the R1-R's. They feel very, very close to the RA-1's for grip, rating or no rating. The compounds are very similar." (HeHeHe. ISS beware. ) We'll see if Steve is right. Total cost for tires, mounting, and tax was just over $700.00.

I'm going "experiment" with the R1-R's at the Fontana DE in the morning, switching to the RA-1's in the afternoon. I'll let you guys/gals in GP/944Spec see for yourselves how good the R1-R's might be. I figure if I can stay up with the Spec944's and Jackie in the infield, I'm doing alright. If I get the "point by" ... I'm doing better. :roflmao: :burnout:

Just received this new info about RE-1 availability and a "deal" for the 944 race guys, from Bryan at Toyos Only:

"As far as the RA1's are concerned they are still availible. I'm going to make a deal for the 944 guys that run the 225/50r15. This will run until Sept. 1st or until Toyo runs completely out of them. Normal retail was $733.64 a set shaved and shipped to the west coast. The new deal will be $676.00 a set shaved and shipped.

Everyone WILL have to let me know that they are in the 944 race group! This only applies to them. Spec boxster already has a similar deal through me now.

I hope this can help everyone out and let me know if I can be of assistance in the future!"
