My 968, currently in KP, would be in AX9 with 600 total points (+/- 10 points with some small adjustments) and TT8 with 650 points. What I find interesting is that their rules give quite a bit of latitude in how you choose to modify your car. I could see many modified cars as being able to adjust what class they run in +/- one class without too much trouble. Certainly everyone doesn't fall into that statement, but many would.

Coming from someone who went from really close competition of up to five cars to just myself for a couple of years, the idea of having more cars in classes is very enticing. Same story as always holds true for any points system. Fully pointed cars that chose their points wisely will be happy with the system and very competitive. All mods are not created equal for every car / class, nor are the point penalties applied, so choose carefully.

My car would be a GREAT zone 7 car, but falls in between in our SDR rules. So although Tom has issue with them, I would love them! :D

The lack of weight penalties I see as a problem for the Zone 7 rules...

I like the whole idea of having fewer classes and more competition. I know we have our own subgroups of informal competition, but it seems an approach like this could possibly formalize it. I also think that we might have better, more consistent attendance if the classes had more drivers and better competition. With this system, you can't afford to miss a handful of events and still walk away with a class win at the end of the year. Greater competition will obviate the need for a 50% rule. Winning will be more significant.

EXTREMELY UNOFFICIAL RESULTS - Here are the following classes and times based on a very small (tiny, actually...practically microscopic) sampling of cars that let me know their zone 7 class. I'm just putting the class, car and time down. AX9 actually had the most to choose from and showed that all of the cars finished with very close times (top 4 were .14 seconds apart).

AX4 - 04 GT3 1:18.72

AX5 - 71 911 - 1:20.92

AX6 - 89 944T - 1:18.32
AX6 - 72 914 - 1:21.45

AX8 - 96 911 - 1:25.83
AX8 - 97 C4S - 1:21.71
AX8 - 06 997S - 1:22.73
AX8 - 93 RSA - 1:19.84

AX9 - 87 944S - 1:23.17
AX9 - 88 944S - 1:19.53
AX9 - 94 968 - 1:19.58
AX9 - 87 944S - 1:20.17
AX9 - 88 Carrera - 1:19.44
AX9 - 88 944S - 1:19.46

AX10 - 07 CaymanS 1:22.40
AX10 - 08 Boxster S 1:19.50

AX11 - 99 Boxster 1:19.35

AX12 - 89 944T - 1:27.36
AX12 - 71 911 - 1:21.92

AX13 - 00 Boxster - 1:20.78
AX13 - 89 944 - 1:27.52.

AX15 - 86 944 - 1:25.42

Hi Mark,

I'm AX10. You can also browse the classification on the GGR website of anyone who submitted a classification request to them. Interesting stuff.

Thanks Mark for posting the interesting micro results.
Looks like the Boxster's with 1st, 2nd, and potentially 3rd in the BRI. Not sure the bri calculation, but ax 11 and ax 12 and ax10 respectively.
By the way, enjoyed that fast track!.. 3 times in third.

Clearly not nearly enough data points, and my car in AX8 with 4+ year old tires, a cab, stock "alignment" and a driver who has only driven 1-2 AX's in the last 2 years and the first time in a new car was clearly not optimal. But it would have been way more fun competing against the other 3 cars Mark knew about that were plus/minus 3 seconds of my time, than just competing against 1 other car that was 8-10 seconds slower all day :surr:

I vote for finding a way to make the new system work and not expecting perfection nor anyone expecting the rules never to change after this first giant step.

Fun event, thanks to all

It looks like I was the AX12 Boxster with the 1:20.78. However, that was a quick test scoring of my car that I did just before going on vacation. When I went back today and did it for real, I am in AX13 (395 points), TT13 (370 points). I have rescored myself on their website.
