Seems the Feb. 5 ax is the same day as the SBXL. Any thoughts?

Seems like a big screen TV and portable satellite dish could solve that problem.

or Tivo...

Is there still anyone out there without Tivo?

Now if we can just keep the Trailer crew from premature ejaculations (ok - all you people with dirty minds, check your dictionary... 8) ) we can go home and watch it in near-real time (actually - did you know that there is really only 60 minutes of actual play in a 5-hour football game? Amazing how fast the game plays without timeouts, delays, etc.).

A little sarcasm.................

Hmmmm. Let's see. Sit inside, in front of a "tube" (with or without friends), let the brain waves go in to Alpha-state (aka blank), drink beer, eat junk food, and generally get fat on poor-nutrition; scream, cavort and generally make an A$$ of myself about a team I don't care about, don't play for, don't know the players of, and isn't from my home town; "dodge" getting any thing done around the house for 3+ hours, and deal with the seathing wrath of a spouse who can't fathom why men like to watch (vs play) football rather than take care of the house ................ :banghead:

Or: go down to the Q with my spouse in the beautiful SoCal winter (most likely sunny - since there are more sunny days in January/February than in June/July in San Diego County), meet about 100 of my closest friends, get in some great driving in a car I'm absolutely crazy about, get some exercise chasing cones ( .... yes, I love cornerworking!!!!), share in the magic that is competitive driving, have a beer with my spouse and buddies while loading the trailer, and go home with a smile on my face having accomplished the goal of improving my winnings for the year in my run-class.

Gosh... I just don't know......... Tough choices here. :nono:

Oh - I know! I'll just go skiing in Tahoe! 8) :beerchug:

(Now, really! Is there actually any reason not to drive your Porsche? Come on!)

Have fun, everyone - regardless of what you end up doing. I'll see you all at the Q on Feb. 18th.

Dan - I guess it's possible to do both. Kickoff is normally 4:30 PM, just as the autox is wrapping up. Little chance of reserving a group spot at a commercial place as they will want the house filled and the earlier the better.

So..........any interest in having a post autox SB party at the Q with satellite TV feed c/o Mike D. Or, someone care to volunteer their place for a post autox superbowl party?

Here's a different perspective. I'm a road racer. I don't give a rat's ... about the super bowl. I don't even know which baseball teams are playing................
I'd like to see a full day's ax'ing just like normal. Not cut short. I understand there will be a smaller crowd, which means less volunteers AND more track time. I'd rather work corners twice because I love driving. There may be some key people, like Glen Marlin for instance, or one of the AX chairs, timing and scoring, who will want to leave early and I understand that. That's ok. We can still have a full length event, can't we. We have a large enough pool of experience?
I like the idea of having a big screen TV down there so people don't miss when a team makes a basket, or whatever they're doing. It isn't as exciting as driving, I can tell you that. :P

I'm with both Tim and Dan on this one. I cannot imagine a single thing I would rather be doing on the 5th (ok, maybe that one thing) than exercising my reflexes, mind and car.

I find driving to be one of the most ennervating things I have ever done. Conversely watching the Super Bowl is quite possibly one of the most banal.

I vote for a full day (I know that majority will rule and I will have to live with it, but seriously, what are you guys going to miss in the first 1/2 hour that won't be re-hashed and repeated ad nauseum?)

But then I really don't care for most professional sports, expecially televised unless it has a motor. Hell, I'll watch anything with wheels race before I watch some spoiled, over hyped and over paid pros wrestle for a ball. I'll even watch Nascar before I do that (my god! did I just say that out loud?)

Herb,
Maybe we can hope for some sort of "wardrobe malfunction" during halftime?!
We used to BBQ after every summer AX in the late 80's early 90's.
Also, you really have to watch what you say around your kids.............
The other day my 4 year old, Garrison, said from his car seat on the way to Daycare, "Dad, NASCAR is for hillbillies." I almost crashed!

While I appreciate the 'true drivers' point of view. We should be prepared to lose many before the game starts - me included. My son's love of football far outweighs my love of driving.

Kick off is at 3:00 PST. What about 1 long practice session (6 laps) and go to timed runs. Than for people that want to stay, have more laps.

Well, that would enable those who want points to do it before they leave. How many drops are there in the series this year?
More laps after timing would be ok with me.

Strike the Bowl

I like the idea of more laps and like the idea of timed runs earlier too, but for those of us who stay, will there be enough corner workers for us to run? We won't have Dan "I LOVE to corner work" there to pitch in....

I'll work more. I can run the start line for a while , too.

Heck, if just the 944 crowd and Herb want to run, I can work the starting line, chase after you (on foot) while picking up your punted cones, and run to the finish line and be there in time to wave the checkered flag for you......

:D :D :D

I vote for a full day of driving. I will work the last shift also. And - we WILL enforce the penalty of no points for no shows for corner working.
