Anyone out there using Azinis 615's for AX. Also if they are used for AX should they be shaved.

Ron:

Gary Burch has 'em on the back of his early 911. You might want to talk to him about them.

I ran Azinis (not 615's) for about 24 months. I don't recommend shaving them. They have really good stick "right out f the box." I think if you shave them, the grip would be about the same, they most likely would not wear/heat-cycle any better, and you might just be throwing away good tread .... but that's just one man's opinion. I thought their best grip was the first day of driving on them. I never shaved them.

Talk to Gary B. about the 615's, and maybe give a shout to an authority (retailer) about possible advantages to shaving them. Regardless of shaved or not, you'll love 'em if they're your first "grippy" tire after "regular" street tires.

Have fun!

Grassroots motorsports magazine did a great tire test between the 615 and several other popular autocross tires including the old azenis tire. The conclusion I remember is the old azenis tire posted better times, but the 615 was more consistent.

Ron:
I put a set of them on my Boxster at the first of the year. It is my first set of sticky tires and I really like them. I bought them after reviewing the Grassroots article mentioned above. As I recall, they were the number 1 tire in SCCA street classes last year. Edgeracing.com has some good prices. They are out of Florida, and I think the set was about $575 shipped plus $100 to have them installed locally. I did not have them shaved, so can't address that.

My buddy Kevin Adair used a fresh set on his Boxster S in the most recent autocross. He loves the grip on the tarmac. I'm also looking into a set for my 944.
