karting enduro with PCA friends

Postby Tim Comeau on Fri Jun 23, 2006 10:40 am

Had a blast last night at MIRAMAR SPEED CIRCUIT with some new PCA friends. I instructed both Vasilis Mouratoff and his wife Courtney at the last AX and so they invited me to join their company's outing to the kart track. I co-drove the FX sponsored 1-hour enduro with Courtney and she did great! Whatever this new driver lacked in skill, she made up for in tenacity! What a riot to watch...
Fun with PCA friends....

ps. The track is configured differently now so it's a fresh challenge.

Seat time is a good thing. There's a small blurb (race report) about our PCA racing team on the karting enduro organizer's website. www.fxracingusa.com
I recommend this event with it's simple racing format to all PCA drivers looking for a fun, local, wheel-to-wheel challenge! The one-hour race is shared between at least 2 drivers, so bring some PCA friends! The next event is on Wed. July 19th.
Please include a helmet support in your racing plans!

The event ran very well. Great racing between the top 3 all night. We applied a weight handicap to help balance the weight differnece in drivers - effected qualfying really well and lead to some good battles on the track.

The next 1 hour event is scheduled for Wednesday July 19, 7-9pm at Miramar Speed Circuit.

In the future, we're planning growing the event to host 2,3 and 4 hour races. http://fxracingusa.com/articles/pr052206.asp

Thanks Frank.

I decided to spend some money and sign up for the POC Laguna event instead.

I will be interested in this, just not this week.

I guess it is back on, but I had to team with a Corvette guy. How embarrasing  I will let you know how we do, of course, if we lose, it is purely his fault :D

You'd be an asset to any driving team, Jad! Let me know on my cell if anyone is desperate to race and will pay my entry fee to get a 2 man team together.619.994.0919
BTW, today I was going through the box of 944 stuff I got from you and found a 13mm wrench. Want it back?

Tim was right, this was a fun event. Very competitive. I knew we were in trouble when I saw the track record was held by 'Shogo' and team Shogo was there

We qualified 2nd behind, guess who, team Shogo. Shogo is about 12 and weighs maybe 80 lbs? Not too many events that I am one of the heaviest drivers, so the standing start was not pretty, weight and bad reflexes quickly put me in fourth. After my stint, I had managed to get to first with the help of others pitting but I broke the track record and was feeling pretty good. Unfortunately, the conditions must have been good as Shogo easily retook the track record. Right up to the end there were 3 teams on the lead lap, so it was a lot of fun and challenging even though we ended up 3rd with Shogo winning pretty easily.

I would definitely recommend this for other Porsche people. The next event is being planned for September and they are hoping to come up with ideas to compensate for the weight advantage that some drivers have  We need a tech session of something at one of these events where we rent the track and drive for an hour - no I do not have time to arrange it.

Interesting.

I'm surprised they are thinking about a "handicap" for the weight difference.

I spent several years doing all of the computer/admin work for "SpeedRing" the indoor go kart track in San Jose. This offered me a LOT of track time. We always talked about the track records and such. The records up north where held by a 90lb girl, but behind her by .005 was a 210lb male. We spent a lot of time trying to figure how this was so??

Thoughts?

On a clear open track, it isn't as important as when trying to pass. The lighter drivers have more options and can regain momentum faster. Also, was the girl named Danica? When I saw her race karts, she beat the guys as well.
