IMPORTANT New News about Spring Mt Time Trial

Postby jack miller on Sun Aug 27, 2006 3:47 pm

Hi friends,

As you may know, the expense budget of our upcoming Spring Mountain Time Trial is high. Spring Mt. raised the track rental significantly when they expanded the track. Believe me, our $275 two-day rate is a bargain for this wildly fun track! To make our ends meet, we extended an invitation to participate to a wide number of car clubs, most notably Lotus and Toyota Supras (can anyone say drift contest?). It looks like there will be a high level of interest from these parties. Fifty (50!) Supras have indicated they want to do 1 or 2 days, since they are having a gathering of 200 Supras in Vegas just before our event.

So, I need YOU, as one our regular crew, to sign up as soon as humanly possible: 1) so you don't get closed out of a sold out event, and 2) so I can tell the Supra club how many cars they can bring. Remember, we don't charge you until after the event, so there is no penalty for signing up early.

Ok, this is your official notice that this may be an unusual sell-out event. Send your registration now and make your hotel reservation at the same time.

You won't be disappointed in the new and improved Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. Sign up at http://www.pcasdr.org/img/2006/Calendar ... Oct1FI.pdf

Monica and I have signed up. Now we need some folks to join us!

Monica will be driving her beautiful 912 with new Hankook tires, and she really wants to see some other early-model/historic Porsches there (preferably fading in her mirrors! ). She's really pumped after reeling in some Big Dogs at Portland Int'l Raceway. So, come on you 912, 914, 356, 924 owners. Come out and drive with a National Champion, fun loving 912 owner. I promise she'll be nice to you .... at least in the first run session  .

As always, I'll have the 944 Water-Bucket out there for those Instructors and top-end drivers to dodge and go around on the straights (and no, Dan A., I'm not parked on the straights .... just peddling as fast as I can! :bigcry: ). (I'm trying to figure out how to paint a pylon graphic on the back. )

We'll have the Pop-up ready, cool drinks, and plenty of shade to share, so come out and drive Spring Mtn. And don't forget to stop by the "Big Top" and pay a visit.

See you there!!

Faxed in my entry.
Dano big top sounds cool.
First run session maybe hop in my car.
We’ll try to follow Jack around and via chatterbox discuss the track’s finer points. 8)
After our track reconnaissance if needed the AC will be blasting in my ghetto fabulous trailer.

I've raced a 400hp turbo Supra street car (on Victoracers) at Big Willow.
This one was a 1:30 car, decent in the turns but a rocket on the straights.
Good fun.

I did have a question regarding the Supra's...It kinda looks like this would be a "track day" event for them possibly like an rgruppe track day.. It makes no mention on their website of any requirements to participate in the event. What is the plan if 50 supra's show up at the event? Do they have their own run group? Do they run in yellow? Inquiring minds want to know....

And Mike...Its good fun if you have a 3.6 in a 2000lb car.. Hey! My names Dano too! Does this mean I get the same reconnaissance??

Hey horse jockey, it's closer to 2200 w/o my 6'6" XXLT chassis. :D
Yes sir hop in, but first let’s confirm we are not in the same class?
Take that as a he11 yeah, get in. :burnout:

We are currently in the process of working that out with the Supra drivers. Proposed plan is to either 1) give them their own run group if they can commit to that financially and legally, or 2) integrate them into our run groups as appropriate (in which case they will need to comply with all of our usual driving requirements).

Either way there will be tons of track time, as usual. Sign up now if you are even thinking of going so you don't get shut out and you don't have to pay the late registration fee (price goes up after 9/15 but we could sell out before then). If you need to cancel, we'll deal with that, just sign up NOW. We appreciate the participation of all of our past drivers, especially our regulars who we'd hate to see shut out of such a great event.

I will be very interested to see how this event will be structured before I sign up.

I have nothing against Supras or their drivers if they are experienced track hounds. HOWEVER, my car is a 2200lb 911 with about 250hp. I really have no desire to be sharing corners with 3500lb, 800hp cars except for Jad's :)

I'm trusting Robert's comment about everyone needing to fulfill the typical PCA driving requirements. Car safety equipment, tech inspections, recent and confirmed driving experience and licenses or else...... they NEED their own run group.:)

Just to be clear, we have always allowed other marques to join in our TT's, in an appropriate run group, when the car and driver meet all of our criteria. Our regulars have shared the track with lots of other non-P cars through the years and this event will be no different.

Once we know how many Supra people we have and their status we will post the arrangement here. I once again (and for the last time) reiterate though that waiting to sign up may cause you to get shut out. If you are concerned about format (have we ever let you down?), sign up now and once we resolve and post how it will work, then if you don't like it we will simply tear up your reg. form. We are trying to give our regulars priority but we need to know now how many of you there will be. Please help us out.

I thought my car was 1500lbs? I have so much trouble keeping track of the power and weight of my own car that almost seems to change each time a competitor posts something about it:wink:

I am sure Jack and Robert will come up with a good solution, but, despite agreeing with Curt  , a seperate run group does kinda sound good. I know who in PCA to watch out for and who to play with, in a bunch of Supras, I will be afraid of them all  Of course, I am already signed up 8) as is Reverend Duncan

Robert, Please feel free to tear up Curts reg as soon as you get it.... And while your at it anyone else in AM...(except me of course)

Thanks for the clarification Robert! I know we have had other marques, a few, here and there, is no concern, but when Jack said 50 were interested thats something different. I just had one last comment, this is not just a "Track Day" for us, as in "Hey! come out and see what a real track is like!" , this is a for points Time Trial. If this were a DE or fun day (no points) I wouldn't even bring it up. I completely trust yours and Jack's judgement on this but did want to voice my view anyway. Thanks for listening to my whining.... :D

Great points Robert, all of them.

Have you noticed no one is saying anything about the Lotus owners joining us? That's because we all admire and respect anyone who would have the good taste to buy such a cool and handsome car. We especially appreciate the Lotus owners who hand out transponders to us and reiterate that we get our registrations in!

That's right punk bizazzelitch. I'll have my Jad voodoo doll securely fastened to my Hot Lap and my video camera charged and ready, hoping to catch another Jad off track excursion. Maybe after Pahrump I can edit together a whole montage of black 944 turbo being used as desert agricultural equipment movie.

Would you be available to narrarate and discuss the differences in the way the off track sand at Buttonwillow tastes compared to the sand at Pahrump?
