PCA inaugural @ Miller

BOOHOO!!!!

I broke every day, my camera wasn't worth a damn, it's hard to order double rum and cokes there, but the track was an absolute blast! Oil pressure sending unit loosened at the end of Friday...just as I went in to the race tech . This was the 1st time the car PCA club raced in 2 years, so I had the distinct pleasure of going through full tech inspection. John Rickard was chief scrutineer, so it was nice to have a familiar face there. After we brought it back to the pits, found a fuel drip on the crossover line on the fuel rails. Of course no one had any fuel hose, but lucky for us Les Long's (Air Power) guy was making a run Sat a.m. Missed 1st session...got all buttoned up for the second session, and broke a wheel stud Now I HAVE to go out 3rd session or risk starting DFL in the enduro. Made it out on sticker tires and qualified 26th out of 90 cars. Come to grid and someone else is parked in the 26 spot...sheesh...so I'm 26A whatever the F that means. Motor began to richen itself all day, so it took about a lap to get the car sufficiently warmed up to get the power down. Enduro green flag drops and chaos ensues...3 wide a cup car decides he's going to use east paddock pit out and manages to hit a couple of 3" dia x 3' cones sending them about 20' in the air  2 guys in front of me look for where they're going to land, I split them and now I'm class leader  Near the braking zone, someone forgot to check hood latches and a cup car ends up seeing nothing but hood and broken windshield   . We string out and everything goes fine, till I notice a waft of smoke and the smell of burnin oil...go around another lap being hounded by the fastest of the class whom I jumped at the start. Came up on 2 rookies...both drove off the track watching their mirrors  . Finally had to bring it in about 1/2 way thru the race. Bill Dawson in his 77 Turbo ended up 11th overall despite going off TWICE!
Sunday we pull the sensor off and find out the top threads are broken. Shim it w/ an AL washer and seal w/ locktite. Go out w/ no issues other than car running rich (Car came w/ Zytec and I don't have the cabling or program to fix it...Zytec less than stellar in the customer service dept.).
Go out for 1st sprint race...green flag drops and I've got no power...car has nothing off the line...get hooped by 3.0l cars till the motor decides to come back. Picking my way thru traffic I get to the back hairpin, dump it in 1st (tall) as I had all day...get a sight and smell of smoke (one I'm not familiar with) and no power. Make sure I'm in gear, still nothing. pull off, let the car cool. Limp back during a break, Dave checks it, nothing dripping, nothing hanging. Go back out, get to same turn, same thing happens again End up watching the race from the side, didn't even attempt the 2nd sprint. Turbo Bill finishes 10th overall but that is subject to correction since the 1st and 2nd place cars kissed in the final turn and spun each other before the checkered.
Best time for me was 3:10.04...should have be 3:07 - 3:08 territory. Turbo Bill's best 3:05xx.
An excellent track and by far my favorite now. Amenities are superb. Long haul from the bottom of Cali, but worth it for a 3 day event. Special props to Dave Q of Mirage who went up and did yeoman's duty keeping both cars out on the track, he had his hand's full! Other SDR's in attendance included Behr Salehi, who finished both sprints and the enduro. Thanks Behr for all the bits and pieces to keep me out there. Steve Gerken and Steve Livelsberger were there too.

Hey Jim sounds like you and Dave Q were busy with the car. :(
So were there many broken windshields or punctured tires?
I heard Richard Price had a much tougher weekend than you :!:
When is your next race?
POC Big Willow?
A few of us are going to race or TT at Big Willow with the Alfa club on Oct. 27/28.

I did not have an incident at Miller - I got caught up in someone else's incident when he lost control of his car and hit me. Since you have emphasized "ANOTHER" perhaps you could remind me of ANOTHER incident I have had (since I have only had one in four years of racing, I assume the emphasis means I must have forgotten some)????
