Hans, or no Hans...

Are they going to be a requirement for next year or not? I am trying to get my Christmas list together.

My vote is NO, but I am uniformed. Is another $1000 investment required to participate going to keep people away? Further, how many lives or injuries would they have saved/prevented in the OUR TT SERIES in say, the last 10 years?

I've cut/pasted from the proposed changes:
Proposed Change:
Section XIV
It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that the vehicle meets or exceeds all safety requirements. Any modifications with regard to improved safety will generally be accepted. The driver must ensure that any safety device or modification is installed and used according to the manufacturers directions. The driver needs to be prepared to show that their installation is within the manufacturer's recommended configurations whenever asked by a tech inspector.
Section XIV. Part B. 2.
(Delete paragraph on head and neck devices.)
Description:
These two proposals were done in conjunction with each other because of the high potential for unsafe installations of head and neck devices.
Proposal 1 -- This proposal adds some text to the general safety section stating that if the driver uses safety equipment, whether or not it is required in these rules, it is their responsibility to ensure that it is installed and used according to the manufacturers directions. They need to be prepared to prove it, if a tech inspector cannot readily make that determination.
Proposal 2 -- Head and neck safety device technology, standards and requirements are still an evolving, immature area in automobile sports. While we feel that head and neck devices are the way of the future, neither POC nor PCA national require the for Time trials and DE type big track events. We felt it best to remove the requirement for now. They are a potential requirement for PCA Club Racing in the near future. It seems smart to wait for now and then revisit this issue when the timing is right.

So apparently H&N not required this year. I bought an Isaac device last year at the same time I spent money on suspension, wheels, tires, etc. I'm new to this sport and there seems to be a (hopefully) small probability of a big incident due to concentration lapse (me or someone else) or equipment failure. It seemed like reasonable insurance for $800.

These are proposals... Not rules!

So the proposals are for no H&N device but until a vote is cast it is all speculation.
The answer will come next week after the Presidents meeting.
Tell Santa you need another week.
I will post the results here on the forum.
