'Old Glory' is the flag to fly in Pahrump
"The Nevada town of Pahrump is taking a stand not just against illegal immigrants but flags they may bring with them," USA TODAY's William M. Welch writes this morning on the front page.

The town board in the small community west of Las Vegas voted this week to make it illegal to fly a foreign nation's flag by itself.

"Old Glory is sovereign," says Paul Willis, a retired carpenter and board member. "You can't fly any other nation's flag higher than the American flag."

The town has also declared English its official language and denied town benefits to illegal immigrants.

The American Civil Liberties Union says the restriction on flags violates the First Amendment. In the blogosphere, BrickieBob's Opinion gives "three cheers for Pahrump." But Jack Wood, who says he lives in Pahrump and blogs at Nye Gateway to Nevada's Rurals, says "as soon as I finish laughing at the absurdity of this racist ordinance I'm going to head down to Romero's Mexican Restaurant and order me a Mexican hamburger disguised as a taco."

Severely off topic of Porsche, but I love how people confuse the word racist with nationalist. I think that law goes a little far, but I'd agree with not giving benefits to people not members of the group giving the benefits.

I just find it funny that the little town of Pahrump, with really very little besides the race track in my opinion, makes the cover of a national newspaper causing a lot more attention and problems then if it was just ignored. How many illegal immigrants could there possibly be in Pahrump NV? I wonder if Mini's with the British flag on top are illegal

Pahrump has one thing more famous than then race track - home to the worlds oldest profession. Also, Pahrump was just featured as a backwater, hick town in two episodes of NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip so there must be something that gets them publicity.

Keep in mind that Pahrump gets the dregs of the working class from the Vegas area.
Not too high on the education scale. I don't expect them to understand, much less protect, the freedoms guaranteed us as individuals under the Constitution. It's tough enough to get college educated people to comply with our Constitution. I always find it simply amazing that many Americans feel that their own cultural version of American freedom is the standard of what's right, when it's actually only one single iteration of the possibilities of what's available to wear the label of, "American."
There are freedoms guaranteed us in the first 10 amendments to our Constitution, called the Bill of Rights. If more people would educate themselves about these articles, we'd have many less lawsuits, and still fewer transgressions of Constitutional law. I ALWAYS carry a copy of the U.S. Constitution with me. That's only because there are so many loonies out there who think they know what is it to be a real American.

Understanding.
Tolerance of differences.
Appreciating diversity.
That's what America is about.

Now let's go racing!
