New Transporter Goes Online!

Postby lowyder993s on Sat Dec 16, 2006 9:32 pm

After 3 months, lotsa design hurdles and a few beers, the Mirage Transporter was finally christened!
It started out as a dirt car hauler from the midwest. It had a lounge, workshop and tire racks. In the 90's it was used for 1 of the Indy teams. We (Jae Lee, Bill Dawson, Bill Hartsock, Mike and Jim Copp) pooled our funds, brought it out and began a full demo. The first hurdle was the height of the fender wells inside which was so eloquently pointed out by Roland Schmidt  We were able to design the bottom floor to accommodate the wheel arches and still manage to get a second floor in. To do it, we needed to use 3" square tubing and it gave us about 1.25" of extra height. We designed it so we can haul 5 cars (2 up top and 3 on the bottom)to some of the longer races without the need to take 5 pickups with trailers. We still have room underneath the bottom floor for some storage as well as the last 8' of the trailer. As an added bonus, the trailer came w/ a 40' x 20' awning. We can park all five cars underneath it and still have room to work...think Willow in Aug!
Still a few more tweeks to go, but 2007 should see us club racing some new venues!!!

Wow Jim!
That is really sweet!
But did you leave room for the Minibar, humidor and Big screen TV for race videos?

Please Jim,
I don't think anyone wants to see that!

BTW- The disco ball should go under the awning!

Forget the disco ball, it needs a jacuzzi.

Nice work Jim et. al. on a pimpin big ride. The old dog gets a body makeover and a new home. I know where I'll be hangin at track events.

Disco ball, jacuzzi - I hear the new team uniform is going to start with fur hats and leather coats.

Make sure you leave room for Mark Tyler's grill so he can dish out the carne asada!

After what he's doing to my car, I may be making him quite a few carne asada dinners

I'm pretty sure we'll be hosting something at CFOS 2007. Les Long from Air Power did that at the Miller race and it was pretty neat!

Looking forward to seeing you guys rolling in the new rig.

New re-body looks great Jim!
I was at Tyler's today, Gene had your rear bumper mounts fabricated and had dropped all the rear end parts off to the paint department.

The paint rep was telling me some wild custom colors can take a day or three to get to San Diego.
You'll need to nail down your new colors soon. 8)

I know, I know...if mine comes out 1/2 as good as yours I'll be stoked! Must remember to steer wide of TC when on track

Mike,
I believe Mark Tyler's establishment is called Qualtech Race Paint not Victory. My 914/6 was the first PCA car of the recent activity he painted. Came out great. That tangerine color is fantastic. And I hear some of the other Porsches in his shop now are coming out very well also. Maybe 2007 will be the year of "show before go" or is it "go, now show"?
