Remember the new helmet requirements go in effect Jan 1, 2007.

That means if you don't have the right helmet for WSIR you don't run.
Don't make this mistake and ruin your weeknd.

Check out the other new rules stuff here.
http://forum.pcasdr.org/forum/viewtopic ... 4181#14181

But here is the important stuff.
Standard original equipment 3-point belts for stock and street-stock classes regardless of driver experience.
5 & 6-point harnesses must comply to any current FIA and /or SFI 16.1 standards and their manufacturers mounting guidelines.
Helmet requirement for Autocross is: 2000 SA or M and 2005 SA.
Helmet requirement for Time Trial and D.E. is: 2000 SA or 2005 SA only.
See you all at Willow in February!

Approx. another 5 years. The Snell ratings are usually updated in 5 year intervals, and a helmet is usually approved for 2 cycles (which equals a 10 year useful life).

Steve, Thanks for your work on the rules, and thanks even more for trying to get the word out about the changes. Nice of you.

It's been a love/hate thing for me over the years...
Just just time to pass it on.
Since all the rules and tech inspection guys are new to their jobs this year we would all be doing ourselves a favor to be 100% prepared.
They are going to be busy enough without dealing with unprepared drivers.

So who knows the place to get a deal on a SA2005 full face helmet? :?:

I'm a ZAMP helmet dealer. Check out the SA-2005 RZ-2 SPORT model online at http://www.zamp-racing.com./rz-2_sport.htm
The suggested retail is $299. They are a carbon/kevlar/glass shell and they are predrilled for the HANS device.

There are other models on line at www.zamp-racing.com.
If that interests you, contact me and I'll make you that great deal.

Last summer, I bought an M2005 helmet to replace my obsolete M95. Now I see that the M2005 suddenly became illegal, whereas an M2000 can still be used for AX.
Am I to believe that an M2000 helmet is safer than an M2005? This doesn't make any sense to me. The only logical rule would be to allow M2005 helmets until the M2000s become obselete.
Do I really have to buy yet another helmet, because I didn't anticipate the rule change?

Thomas,
M helmets are not allowed in most other racing groups only SA.
The rules change was made over a year ago and proposed 6 months before that, so people could prepare.
So it wasn't a sudden change at all.
It is right in the 2006 rules booket that you will need the new stuff by 2007.
But as the new rule states your M2005 is still good for AX.

Steve,
Thank you for taking the time to clarify this issue.
Guess I should have read the rules first, instead of buying something and then complaining afterwards.
The way the current rules are written the M2005 case is really confusing to me. However, since you are saying that I can use it, I certainly won't argue with it.

I don't read the new rule that way. :?:
The following helmets are approved for Autocross use: 2000 SA or M and 2005 SA.

My understanding for disallowing 2005 M was to phase out M altogether in a few more years.

I think Kris is right, a strict reading of the rules would imply that M2005 helmets are not eligible for autocross events, even, in 2007, but I can't believe that was the intent, if M2000 helmets are still allowed. I think the reasoning behind the change was to discourage people from buying any new M-2005 helmets and get SA-certified ones instead, but I think people like Thomas who have an M2005 should be "grandfathered in" somehow, under the provision for M2000 helmets, since the M2005 Snell standard is at least as good, if not better.

I think Kris is correct in fact and Tom is correct in spirit.
Thanks for the correction...

You should go to the source for the correct answer; and that is not me so I will shut up.

Can anyone recommend a good place in North County to get a 2000 or 2005 SA helmet?

Thanks.
