I was thinking of getting one of these from Kary. Anyone have any thoughts I should know before spending the money?

Is there anything else I need to have besides a laptop?

Anyone selling a used one?

This is a pretty cool system that is upgradeable (there are different levels depending on how uch you want to measure) and the data canbe analyzed using a "Windows Mobile" device such as a PDA or a SmartPhone. I can credit this analysis software with finding me 1.5 seconds on the last AX (I think I got a 63.8 in an NS car). I am excited to see what it will do in Spring Mountain.

It's about 1/2 the cost of the GPX...

Seriously, it's pretty easy to use, allows instantaneous feedback, built in lap marker (no more hot lap or beacon) ...and you can share the files w/ your fellow bench racers. I made that mistake w/ KillerBee...only once tho

I was just going over the differences in lap time from a month ago, after Jae did some skunk works stuff to the powerplant New top speed for my car and a 3g swing -+1.5g's on accel and decel...that oughta keep the Bee in the rearview for another month or so.

I think it's probably a pretty good deal for the money, but I wouldn't say it's easy to use. And, it's quirky IMO. I think there are still some bugs to be worked out. If you want some specifics, send me a PM and I'll give you the details. Having said that, I'd check out the entire market to see what's available now and rate all available offerings for your priorities --you might value features more than ease of use --someone else might do the reverse. If I had to do it all over again, I'd do more research than I did. I might still wind up buying the G2X, but I'd have done a comparison and known better what I was getting.
I think Jim is gonna have trouble with the G2X (since Jae worked on Jim's motor)'cause the G2X is not programmed to read out Mach numbers!!!
So, what was your top speed at Fontana recorded by the G2X, Jim (and where?).

I think it is a good entry level system if all you do is use the basic features. When you want to add more sensors to the system it get really expensive really fast. For example the sensors to see brake pressure, throttle and steering position cost $1400 from G2X, all of the temperature and pressure sensors (oil, air, water, etc) are $169 each, and if you want to use your own sensors to save some money you have to buy a $119 Vnet cable for each sensor. Add all that up and you could afford an AIM system that has more capability, a WAY better diplay, and much more affordable sensors.

If all you want is the accelerometer, trackmap and sector times the G2X seems like a good deal. These basic functions will satisfy most people but if you want to do any hardcore analysis I think there are better systems out there in the same price range (once you include the cost of the sensors).

The MXL Pista with the brake, throttle, and steering sensors is what I am considering. It costs about the same as G2X with the same sensors. The downside is that you have a bigger initial purchase price, but if you plan on getting more sensors it works out to be about the same price... Kind of a big purchase for something that doesn't directly make your car faster, I'm still deciding on which system to get. I just wish the G2X sensors weren't such a rip-off, if I could get the basic system with the sensors for $1500 I'd be all over it.

I'd look at the AIM system, cuz its plug and play AND interfaces w/ their DAVID video system. Big money up front, but you're not nickel and diming the thing to get up to what AIM has out the box. The V-net sensors are kinda neat, snap together and they work flawlessly. Give us your take on it...Tim at Racepak is VERY responsive to newbie questions as well as their forum board.
