Possible venue for SD?

I attended my first OC region event at the El Toro base. They used 2 air strips separated by a dirt median. The course was layed out great, although I had a hard time remembering the back side section..

Lots of different cars allowed at this one, Bimmer M3, 350Z, Elise, corvettes, total 90+ cars. It was run very well and the layout would be awesome for a DE, where you could connect both strips for continous lapping and make it interesting on both sides. Both Mick Rosen and I made the top 10, and I lost TTOD to a GT2 on Hoosiers...

I don't know how long it will be available but maybe a venue SD region could rent a couple times?

I attended a driving event there put on by Cadillac and we were hitting 120 + on the back straight. I am going to the Chevy one in July (check it out at revitup.com ) It is a great venue, unfortunately slated for development in the not too distant future I believe. But add my vote to having a club event or three there!

Is the surface concrete or asphalt?

Its about 4-5 feet thick concrete is my understanding, actually a really nice surface.

What's wrong with the surface at the Q? There are several square feet without holes, (more than a hundred if you add them all together) to layout new tracks.
All we have to do is modify our cars to have long travel suspension and........

Dan: several SD Instructors went up to the OCR Driver's Training day at El Toro. It is a great location. The surface is in really good shape, and there is enough room to get very creative with track design. Although it lacks any elevation change, the quality of the surface and amount of room more than makes up for any short-comings.

When Carl, Gary, and I were A-X Chairs we tried ... unsucessfully ... to get on the base. We didn't have the contacts, and the "military status" of that base precluded us from gaining access a that time. Obviously, things have changed.

I'm planning on attending as many event there as I can, including skipping SDR events  to attend OCR events, since the surface is so much better. The OCR guys ... and in particular Steve Eguina ... are doing a fantastic job up there. Their program is really gaining momentum, and SDR would be wise to join that region producing driving events in the future (like ... when Qualcomm becomes Condo-ville). Did I mention there's tons of seat time at their events?

And a DE there? Oh, absolutely!!! Someone needs to talk with Jerry Griffin (OCR-CDI) and Steve E. about that. Of course, it would mean that I couldn't sleep-in anymore.......

Actually, the seat time is the same as SD. 4 - 4 - 3 at the event I attended, they offered 4 -4 -4, but people voted to get done sooner. While the course layout was very good, they were a little sparse on cones in some area's and it was hard to see/remember some sections on the latter part of the course. It was a nice change to go up against many different makes of cars. One other nice touch they did is on the reg table they had a file folder with numbers printed (2 on a page) 0 -9 for new people or ones without magnetic numbers. Since I couldn't use #2 I was given 780 and using these was much easier and faster than creating number with tape, and it made it very easy for cornerworkers to read.

Hey Martin, don't take the lack of thumbs up to your Photoshop work as a sign it's not funny. Just take it as confirmation that this board is nowhere near as hoppin' and fun as it used to be. That's one of the great Photoshops of all time on this board. There used to be alot more of them but....... yawn.
