I can't seem to find the weight of any trailers. They all say it is important, but don't tell you how much they weigh?
Can someone tell me the range of weights for std open trailers?

The big, clunky, steel rentals from U-Haul are 2000-Lbs. They are coming out soon with a lighter one since so many people now need to move larger SUV's and those exceed the 4000-Lbs capacity of the standard trailers.

I think the aluminum ones go around 1200 to 1400 lbs depending on length.

Yup, my 17.5' open aluminum trailer is 1400# stock. I have, however, added a tool box and tire rack, so it is more like 1500# now.

My old trailer was 1700 lbs (A Carson open 17' steel trailer)

OK, thanks. Amy may be getting a company car that tows 3500 lbs. Not going to work unless I can find a <1000 lbs trailer

You could try and get the car down to 1800 lbs.

The problem is with Amy's company!
Seriously, I think Trailex makes an open Alu car
trailer under 1000 lbs. They're about $5-6k new.

I spoke to Trailex by phone last summer, and they basically laughed at me when when I told them I was in California. ATC at least quoted me a few thousand for delivery, but Trailex told me I would have to come pick it up at the factory.
What about a two-wheel dolly? They are a pain because you can't back up, but it should easily meet the weight requirements.

Jad, there are local ATC dealers now so you can avoid the delivery costs as compared to when I bought my almost 4 years ago.

Do they stock car trailers now? That would be great! Last summer the local dealers only carried boat trailers, so there was still a hefty delivery charge for a car hauler.

The ATC aluminum trailer that I sold to Timee Comeau weighs 970# + the spare tire brings it to 1000#. Awsome trailer!

Jad, the Trailex weighs about 895 pounds. The Featherlite 17.6 foot is 1400 pounds. All the rest seem to be inside that range, closer to the Featherlite. Trailex will be in Scottsdale in the winter for the auctions, they told me, and could bring one to you then. All the aluminum trailer companies seem to be in Indiana or Ohio, and transportation to California is a big part of the bill. It pretty much adds $1000 to the midwest price. My understanding is they all discount the trailers significantly in the winter, if you can wait that long. As you can see, they are somewhat like gold out here compared to a steel trailer. I just bought a 2006 Featherlite 14 foot in Ft Worth on Craigslist after much research. You can find a trucker on uship.com pretty easily to haul one to you. It was $700 from Ft Worth. There are dealers in LA and Santa Barbara for all of them, but the local prices are $6500-7500.

Thanks for all the help. Now I need to see if I can make that work or find a place to rent a tow vehicle if I sell the X5.
