For those going through competition withdrawal, here is a potential fix:

This is roughly an AX for airplanes, cones and all. :D

Whine whine whine ... why did they have to schedule the one time of year I am always out of town????

I traded our last bush plane for a Porsche in 2001 and, though I adore the car and all you great guys in the club, I still pine for the wilds of the sky!

Whine whine ... or maybe some wine will make me feel better, eh?

There is an SCCA event in the SE lot, but no PCA-SDR autox this weekend (9/15-16). Santa Barbara region is hosting a Zone 8 event at Camarillo on the 15th, though, if you're up for a long drive. :D

Also - if it isn't too late to register, there is a "big track" AX up at Streets of Willow on Monday (Sept 17). This is a VERY fun event for high-speed Autocrossing. :D

See their web site at http://www.pcaocr.org and check the Events calendar for Monday. Also, double-check any safety requirements - cabs without integral roll protection may not be allowed, and there may be some other restrictions.

Unfortunately, my new job precludes my getting up there this weekend/Monday :x , but it was a great time last time.

Also, GPX Region is doing their "Day Away from Work" AX up at Streets on October 8th (Monday). See http://gpx.pca.org

Have you posted any photos, Greg? I tried to get down there Saturday afternoon, but I couldn't find parking within reasonable distance.

I took photos and a video. I'll put them up next week after Spring Mountain. Those guys are the best. I can only imagine pulling 8.5 G's 25 feet above the water with the wings vertical trying to get between 2 pylons. Then again, I DON'T think I could imagine enough. Radical!

The Red Bull was a good show. I have a large(ish) boat my flying friends wanted me to take down for a viewing platform, but I wasn't interested in fooling around in a drunken crowd of trailerboaters with the big boat. like leaving your Porsche in the lot at the "parking for dummies" school....no thanks!
Instead my wife and I dropped our dingy into the water and just the two of us ran down there to spectate. Much easier.
I have quite a few hours in unlimited aerobatic airplanes, and I'm just good enough (terrible!) to appreciate how incredibly good the pilots competing really are.
For me the best parts of the airshow were the flyby's of the WWII aircraft. I love the sound of V-12 Merlin's and 18 cylinder round engines, nothing like it anywhere.

Thanks, Greg - the busted pylon shot is great!
