San Diego members continue doing well at POC

Postby JHPGT3 on Mon Sep 24, 2007 10:02 am

Another adenalin rush was had last weekend with POC, racing at Buttonwillow, and once again, PCASDR members did extremely well. Those in attendance included yours truly (John Payne), Jim Copp, Bill Dawson, Roland Schmidt, Kary Clements, Marty Schact (soon to return to SD, Neal Wright, Ethan Dahlkamp, Mark Foley, Ed Muscat and Kenny Rumbaugh. Apologies if I overlooked someone.
Special recognition, however, goes to Jim Copp and Jae Lee of Mirage International. Jim ruled the GT2 Class, the largest Class in attendance with 8 tough competitors. He drove superbly all weekend and won both the Sat. and Sun. races fair and square (I say that with a lump in my throat as a 2nd Place finisher! ). Jae gets equal recognition because he's responsible for taking a wreck of a car (IMO) and turning it into a car that will likely win the POC's coveted GT2 Class Championship this year!!
Great team Jim and Jae!!
Congrats!

Thanks for the endorsement...but it aint over till its over as they say. John and Tech Trix Motorsports should also be commended for their racing spirit! John enlisted Jose the Henchman from the Simone Posse to get him a water pump from PMNA in Irvine AND drive thru wet LA rush hour traffic to get to the track. Michael Essa's crew got John back on track on Sat a.m. I ran out of gas near lost hill and watched as John was flying over the hill and coming back thru the esses planted   My goose was cooked, but the racing gods shown favor on me again. 4 races left with a few tricks thrown in
John continues to shatter track records...a 1:57xx blew everyone else in class (as well as a few cup cars) outta the water. That time also INCLUDES the longer T2. Great time...Neal...thx for the beer!

John, excellent time! That is awesome...well done.

I'd like to throw in there that I had a good weekend, finished 3rd on Saturday's Orange group cup race and 2nd on Sundays Orange group cup race! Really is quite fun mixing it up in the Orange group!

Glad to see so many San Diego drivers at these events!

The Orange group is extremely competitive --I'm sure you had a great time. I heard several people comment on how well you were doing during the race!!

Thanks John! See the video I posted for the Sunday race, it was a real kick and built up to the end of the race :)

Nice video. Great move in the last lap at Star Mazda (but what the heck was Alacon thinking staying wide at that point?). Exciting stuff, eh? Congrats, again. I sure wouldn't want you on my tail!! Very smooth driving!

Thank you John, it was really fun to battle back from being so far behind, they were faster in acceleration (500 lbs lighter than my car, but I could out brake and corner a bit better. Strangely there was complaints about my pass not giving him "racing room", though reviewing the video he was there the whole time and had plenty of room. The only complaint was from him, not any other drivers, not any corner workers. What do you think of the pass?

I agree that I am surprised that he left the inside open for me to take him since he knew I could out brake him in any brake zone. Should not have been a surprise for him though it appeared based upon his attitude and behavior after the race that it was an issue. Perhaps he was just fired up from racing and upon reflection he realized it was a good pass.

It was a great pass! Anything he said came from sour grapes. The video is clear IMO!
