Performance Driving School-question

I will be doing the performance driving school and was wondering about my tires.

I am currently running Toyo RA-1's and my car sticks really well with the suspension changes I have done.

My question is should I remove my RA-1's and do the school on street tires? I was thinking that maybe having a less sticky tire and experiencing more "slip" would help me to learn more in some of the exercises (skidpad/pitch & catch, etc).

What are your thoughts? Any guidance you can offer is very much appreciated.

Street tires

I would recommend using street tires certainly for the Saturday exercises. Sunday is basically a day of autocross and you can use up your RA1s for no time or use up the street tires

The skidpad exercise is really hard on tires especially the front one if your car is setup to understeer. As Greg mentions, use street tires or old DOT R tires that you don t mind trashing.

OK--thanks---I am going to remove the Toyo's and mount the Yoko's. Who do you guys use that will give me a deal? I used Best Tire Buy until he jacked up a BBS-GT rim from my 993 and offered to "split" the repair cost with me ---then I used Discount but, those guys are always a hassle--seems like I have to negotiate a different price each time I go down there.

Is there a shop that is PCA friendly?

I usually get my Toyos from Lynn Heaps @ Topless Performance 928-636-1222 or toll free 1-877-728-0914.
No one has yet been able to beat their prices (Shipping Included and no tax) and their service has been top notch.
I then get them mounted locally for little $. I forgot the name of the place, it s a little shop near Miramar.
Others have used the Wheel store in Oceanside. I don t know what their prices are but you will have to pay tax.

Bear's Tire, maybe?

I have used Import Tire (downtown at 13th and F St.) for mounting and balancing for the last 10 years or so. The more they get to know you, the better the price gets. :D
