Thanks to everyone for making Dec 15th AutoX a great event!

Postby PShipman on Sat Dec 15, 2007 6:53 pm

We just packed up the last of today's autocross. We had one hundred and twenty three (123) drivers and the largest number of students on record!

There were some very cool cars there (besides our beloved Porsches) and a great set of competitive AND fun loving folks.

I want to thank all of you who attended and the large number of you who volunteered your time and energies.

This is what makes PCA San Diego Region such a great club!

Great job everyone!!! The track was fun, fast and challanging. It was great to see all of the different cars down there. It was fun to watch the 944 spec's and Boxsters beat the Corvette's and Ferrari's  Thanks to everyone who helped out. :)

Excellent job, all! Monica and I had a blast. I also want to give Kudos to the transition team and new AX Chairs! That was one of the smoothest, most well run transition-AX's I've seen in years. Perry, Bill B., Jackie L., Dave K., et.al., GREAT job! I'm looking forward to more participation next year. Should be a great year!

Wasn't it cool how those big iron Ferraris and Corvettes looked real pretty ...

but just weren't Porsches out on the track ...

of course ... that nasty silver Miata (no spec car there) with the big feet in the hands of Mr. Kinninger the Younger sure did fly!
Judos to all of us for having such a good time :beerchug:

A total blast.

I was actually pretty impressed with my 1:15.01 on street tires.

Anyone else wanna share their times without subtracting the standard 2 seconds when I ask you at the Q? ;)

Thanks again everyone.

As everybody knows, I ran a 1:08.35 ...

of course that was the run from the starting line to the toilet!

I was very happy with a 1:14.17 in my Boxster. :D It was even clean - no cones.

That was a really nice track layout (although the finish was a bit too tight) and I had a great time.
Really great bunch of people all suffering from the same illness.
A big thanks to Tom Tweed for letting me drive the new toy from hell.
Check's in the mail, Tom
Been too long since the last TTOD.
I've still got a trace of grin left on my face.
Slicks next time?

Times

My best in the Honda S2000 was a low 1:18. Boy it sure feels different than the 928

The fastest times noted were a high 1:09 by Erik Kinniger in the Miata with 285 tires all the way around and a low 1:09 from Steve Grosekemper in Tom Tweed's Ultima GTR.

? I was told that Tom Tweed actually edged out Erik at the end. Can anyone confirm, or are we ceding TTOD to a <gasp> Mazda?

Carl Vandershuit was impressive turning a 1:11 and change in Curt Yaws' GT3 on street tires (Yoko Advan Neovas). (First time in that car?)

Dave Gardner also dropped into the 1:11's (maybe a 1:10?).

In his first day driving his new 944S Turbo (ex-Duncan car), Greg Sharp got down in the 1:13s.

NO, Steve was driving Tom's car and turned a 1:09.25 for UNOFFICIAL TTOD :P

Ya-that was Steve in the car in the later session. I drove it in the red group and the best I could do was a 1:11 flat, although I had a great lap going on my third run that might have been in the 1:10s if I hadn't gotten flagged because of a car spinning in front of me. :( We were on the street tires, though (Michelin Sport Cups), and I think it would have gone a couple seconds faster on the slicks.

After warming the tires for him, Steve, got in and beat me by 1-3/4 seconds. I would like to blame this on the fact that I weigh 80 lbs. more than him, and that the Michelins need some heat to work well, but the truth is that his greater experience in high HP/weight mid-engine cars allowed him to get comfortable and more agressive with it much sooner than I could. I drove the first session mostly in 3rd gear to avoid unintentional wheelspin when getting on the gas.

It was a really fun event, though, despite a couple of turns that were WAY too tight for my new car, it performed better than I thought it would on a short course. I had a great time, although between instructing without my Chatterbox and answering a million questions about the car, I lost my voice by the end of the day!

That was one cool ride Tom.

Didn't get a chance to check it out . . . next time I guess.

Kim . . . as always your time is sobering :)

Thanks again all and looking forward to next year!
