STIR IT UP...

let's say i'm looking at a SC that has a turbo-body kit, i'll be running in the "I
...." class. i'll take my two points for track increase. the car has a turbo wing.
sec.5(w) any wing blah blah... non stock 2pts. i'm asking you, will you waive this modification ? you know that a wide body does not look good with out it's wing (thing). :oops:

Let's see ... I think the Turbo-look body style includes the front and rear spoilers as "standard" equipment vs. "optional" equipment, no? IF the Turbo-body (with wider track, etc., etc.) includes the front and rear spoilers as standard parts you should get no points for spoilers. Again, my interpretation is "optional" spoiler equipment, even "OEM spoiler equipment" is subject to the the new 2-point rule if installed as an option on base-model vehicles. I didn't think the spoilers were options on the Turbo or Turbo-look vehicles. I thought they were standard equipment on all Turbo's/turbo-look vehicles. That's just my own interpretation of the new "options" rule.

Yes? No?

Tom T.?, Steve G.? Mark K.? Thoughts on this?

Yes - Two points for non-STANDARD aerodynamic shtuff
(since no spoiler was standard equipment on an SC).
That's the new rule for 2008.

That's why I imasculated Snickers (removed spoilers).

DARN! I was hoping to see you in IP with me, Paul. Oh well. :cry: Guess I'll duke it out with Ron Trotter and son, the Avitts, and Don Middleton. At least there will be a few of us there. 8)

Of course ... an hour's worth of wrenching, and I could wander back to IS ... :roll:

what i'm looking for is to run with you guys'/girls'
IP, IS, (AR) what ever. last time i checked there was nobody in IP. oh, yeah, by the way, paul, does that mean if i take the rear wing off, i dont have to take points for aero? or is the front considered aero? i know i take 2 points for wider track......

Hey Dan:

You can always pretend Snickers is in IP.
The regular IP crowd doesn't seem to be
able to catch Snickers (IS). What makes you
think you'll be even close? :lol:


Then there's the othe car (Butch) running I-I.
Paul Jr. was TTOD driving Butch at the December
autocross (until he had to leave early).

Yes, two points for a front AND/OR rear spoiler,
so it doesn't make sense to just remove the rear.

If you are doing primarily autocross and Stadium
DE events, the aerodynamic items are not really
that significant. the only thing the spoiler does
is spoil those two points. :P :?

Let's see. If I remember correctly ... from July 7th 2007 AX:

IS #97- Grosekemper,Steve - 1979 911 SC -77.17
IS #461- Young Jr.,Paul - 1979 911 - 77.58
IS #494- Chambers,Dan - 1983 911 SC - 77.76
IS #46- Young,Paul - 1979 911 78.27

So .... I don't know. Maybe, just maybe I have an infinitely small chance of getting somewhat close to "Snickers"/"Abba Zabba" ? :roll: :burnout: Perhaps I'll be a member of an irregular IP crowd.... :lol: :wink:

David (and others): come on down to IP (or IS) and play. I think the IS/IP classes will be close, fun, and very competitive. No matter what class you decide, Qualcomm events are fun, competitive in a friendly way, and a great value at $40.00/day. You also get a great workout (AKA corner -working), work on your tan (AKA corner-working) and derive insight into different driving lines from other drivers as they ply the course (AKA: while corner-working you can observe other drivers).

Remember: in just a few more years the "Q" events will be nothing more than a fond memory. :cry: So come down while the asphalt is still there.

O.K. lets get it on... the mirage thing will be in IS or IP, what ever class (no class) has the most entries. i'll eat my words later. :oops:

Excellent!

Reviewing 2007's IS roster, I think there will be some "moving up" going on to IP. I'm guessing: Team Paul Young(s), Team Ballast Point, the Trotters, Don Middleton, Lori Scheussler ... unless some of these drivers de-tune their cars a tiny bit (remove spoilers like Paul Young, put a 3.0-L back in for Ron T., change tire sizing or compound, etc.). Regardless, the "SC Clan" should be a fun group of cars driving against each other. So "bring it, Dude," and let's have some fun. I'll see if "your old car" can catch your new "Mirage". :wink:

And oddley enough we didn't have any other events
in 2007 we can compare (Streets doesn't count,
of course). Like the August 11 event where I was
BRI and 7th overall... :D

Let's see how we compare at the autocross and
Time Trial events in '08.

And I did remove the front and rear spoilers on
Snickers - it's still in IS for 2008.

I don't know where I'll drive this year. But it seems to me all I have to do is take the little black chin spoiler off my car to stay at 8 points. I know you'll correct me if I'm wrong.

Ron, you are saying that you have to lose the STOCK chin spoiler off your car to save two points?? That chin spoiler is stock, isn't it?

The rule changed for 2008.

Basically, instead of anything (almost) that was
available as an option (stock) being "free", now
only those items that were "Standard" are 0 points.

The front/rear spoilers were optional on the SC
(and the Carrera, for that matter), and hence are
now 2 points.

I do not like this rule. It makes it tough for
most of us, and even worse, it will probably
bump a lot of SS cars. The SS folks are (usually)
the ones who we need to make things easier for.
It was a big change, and also is contrary to
the Parade Competition Rules.

I was too busy with the Parade, otherwise I
would have (hopefully) noticed this proposal,
and (hopefully) campaigned against it.

Oh well, let's live with it for a year and see
what happens.
