Did anyone else receive spam email addressed to "My Porsche Friends and Clients"?

I don't know the sender but this email was clearly sent to an mailing list.... Is the club selling/giving away our mailing list???? I certainly hope not!

I did not receive this email.

However, I do not list my email address here, and you do. You might want to change to not accepting emails, and only accept personal messages. Then you can be notified to your email address about messages here, and not expose your address to anyone 'farming' our forums.

Good point. My email address is listed here as a courtesy for PCA members who want to reach me for personal reasons. No one has ever used it for anything but personal communication. GRRRRR.....

We are very protective of members information. We will not give out names, address, phone #'s or emails. If someone wants to contact a specific member we will forwrd the information to our member and let them chose whether to make the contact or not.

My email is listed here as well, but no spam similar to yours. I just get the usual male enhancement/real estate/let's chat online/life insurance/buy a new Apple iBook online/etc type spam. I'm a little concerned that they consider me a potential customer for all of these things. :?

I get the same crazy spam.... and I'm female! Go figure....

Thanks Dave for clarifying club policy. I had always been under the impression that we were very careful with people's personal information and am happy to hear that my impressions were correct.

I have 3 emails like this as well... Somebody has access to these emails. I will see if I can determine where these came from. Can someone from the web confirm this has not been breached?

If you have chosen to accept emails (which you can change under your Profile), your email address is directly exposed. Hover over the EMAIL icon, or click on it and note that it brings up your email with the user's email address filled in.

If you don't want spam, turn off the email option. Leave accept private messages turned on, and be sure you have turned on notifications of new private messages, and you will receive email notification of private messages without exposing your email address.

Some forum systems will broker emails for the users, so you can turn on email without exposing your address. This isn't one of them. =)

Paul Davis appears to be a forum user, no current posts. How did he get these emails? And why were they used without permission?

The only thing I could think of was the time trial mailing list. I think you can see the "to" list on that distribution (or at least you used to be able to see it..... I haven't checked in a while....)

Interesting, I do remember emails to me from Jack that had a large list in the 'to' section. Maybe this is where he got it.

I am on the TT list, and my email address is exposed in this forum, and I didn't get the spam you are talking about from Sapphire Realty. I get about 60-80 spam messages a day, though, after 20+ years of having my address out on the internet, and there is no avoiding the email harvesters forever, especially if you have a website or belong to mailing lists, forums, etc. They are constantly mined. I have just become very adept at filtering and deleting them, to waste as little time as possible on them, and NEVER, EVER open or reply to their messages. If I had a nickel for every spam I have received, I would be rich by now.

Where was Paul Davis' name on this message? You realize that many of the spammers forge the senders address, no? I could find nothing on the Sapphire site about him, just a bunch of Vietnamese real estate agents. I get a 404 error on their "About us" page. As I remember, Paul works for Bank of America in the finance department, and I doubt he would be involved in such a mass e-mailing for a real estate company, but who knows?
