Numbers are required on the car for AX, what do you guys use for this requirement? What number to pick? I like my paint.

Your choices are static cling on the windows or decals on a magnetic base. Mags are the most popular and easiest to use. Stick them up under the hood when not displayed. 1 set should last for years. :)
Final Touch Graphics and several other companies make the mags locally. Get them as custom as you like. Look around at an AX and see the variety.

What's the basis for numbering? Pick a favorite number? Do they have any meaning? What numbers have already been selected?

Pick any number you want. If someone already has you will be informed. If you don't like the number you get the first time you can always change it (the only person that really complains when you do this is Kary as it will screw up his database for a few events ;)).

I believe that all of the one and two digit numbers are taken, so you will have a better chance of getting the number you want in a three digit sequence. I believe that Cecelia K. is still in charge of the numbers? If so, call her and verify the availability before you order something.

Well, OK, correction: You can have any number that is not already being used by someone.

Unless things have changed that drastically in the last 6+ months I've been MIA, you are not assigned some arbitrary number and can still exercise your freedom of choice (to some extent ;)).

If you stick (no pun intended :D ) with a 3-digit number, you will have a lot more options as to magnetic decals (e.g., rectangle, rounded rectangle, oval [see avatar], etc.).

I got my magnetics from Final Touch Graphics - 2 sets of numbers (10" high digits, oval, silver lettering on black background), 2 sets of class designators (rectangles, 6" high - separate in case I want to change cars/classes), and even a nameplate for the driver's door (a must have for a serious bench racer :burnout: ) - all for about $110 including taxes.

If you want to go fancier, check out the different magnetic styles at the next autocross - some have highly styled decals (waves, slanted, etc.). You can also see most of the styles by looking at the photo postings from the last autocrosses (see "photos are posted" threads in this forum).

Getting magnetics made usually takes 1-2 weeks, so plan ahead.

339

Martha thanks for letting me bend your ear last night.... I think 339 will be a good number for me. I'd be interested in the static cling to the windows if someone has a link on where to get them made.

http://www.equi-signs.com/staticcling.html advertises static cling racing numbers.

http://www.ssgraphicsco.com/ also advertises static cling lettering/numbering kits.

Personally, I like the magnetics, and if you keep them clean they won't mar your paint.

For those "in the know", will there be any changes to the number requirements for next year?
