Forum upgrade

Postby MikeD on Wed Aug 27, 2008 9:35 pm

In case you did not notice, we (the web team) have upgraded the forum software. At the same time we did a little rework on the look and feel. I hope you like it.

There was some extensive (but automated) database conversion required. So if you are missing some import data (no, your avatar does NOT count as important) please let us know and we will dig it out of the old database. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy to new look and feature set of this updated software.

Thanks for your patience,
Web Team

What happened to the tabs for Previous Topic and Next Topic?

And as long as we are looking for them, can we put them at the bottom of the page (or top and bottom)?
Usually when I am reading I finish the last post in a topic and then have to scroll back to top of the page to select the previous topic to read.

Thanks
Greg

Great job on the smooth forum upgrade. I like some of the new features, but I perfered the old darker color scheme.

I've been so busy on a non-car-related project that I haven't been able to keep up with forum-surfing (which can be a huge time-thief, if you participate in 3 or 4 of them like I did), but this is the one place I have checked in on ocassionally and am really glad to see this upgrade. The "View First Unread" link at the top-right of each thread is the most welcome feature that was missing from the previous incarnation. Thanks for the upgrade, Mike, it will save me a little of the time that I have been hoarding so seriously for the last 6 or 9 months.

Greg,

It does not appear that that feature exists in this version of the software. However, this new software has a ton of handy admin tools so that we can properly manage bots, harvesters, and the like a lot better. So, while it may seem a bit annoying to have to deal without certain features you found handy, this is a major step forward.

Jackie,

I dunno, what does the OCR forum look like? This software is pretty popular, so I would not be surprised if we were using the same software as them.

Martin,

When I first released the PCA SDR look and feel a lot of people seemed to complain about "dark" look. However, I did not have the time (or inclination) to fix it. However, since we had to start from scratch with this new version I figured I'd leave that off. If enough people decide they would prefer the dark background I can certainly add it in. Maybe start a poll and get some people on your bandwagon?
