AX Co-driver requirements

Postby kjr914 on Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:41 pm

My former 911 owning friend will be in town during the next AX. I wanted to give him a shot at co-driving with me in my 993. Scanning the rules booklet I only see the following (which doesn't even mention PCA membership, surprisingly...):

B. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid state
driver's license, and be in good mental and physical health. For Autocross
only, 16 and 17 year olds may participate according to the rules of the
Junior Participation Program. The JPP program is documented in the
Region Procedures Manual, distributed annually by PCA national and on
the national website.

Now I'm pretty sure he'd have to be a PCA member or affiliated, right? I seem to remember that someone could be an affiliate on my original membership...usually reserved for a wife/husband/etc, but that sort of idea. If he was actually living in the States, I'm sure he'd just join up, since he's suffering greatly from Pcar withdrawal living in England (no garage, narrow on-street parking, and $10/gallon gas are all somewhat of a deterrent of Pcar ownership there.)

Thanks for your commentary,
Keith

From The Standing rules-page 10, on the SDR website
http://www.pcasdr.org/img/pdf/general/StandingRules.pdf

Non-members may participate with the consent of the event chair, but only in Porsches, which must be owned by either the participant or a sponsoring member.

Thanks Steve! I thought I had seen that written somewhere, but couldn't find it. I'll contact AX and see what they have to say.

Keith, just designate your friend as your affiliate. It's quick and easy. Contact PCS HQ and they take care of it seconds.

If you do this make sure you have a membership card for them at tech inspection.

Or - once they are designated as the alternate, you/they can just sign the "I promise I am legit" form at the event (in case the card hasn't arrived yet).

Good point, Steve. But, having just done this recently, I can confirm that PCA will email the change with new affiliate number in order to avoid the wait for the new membership card.

Yes, card or e-notification from national printed out are both acceptable.
