That would be totally cool to have an F1 quality track that close, especially if they ever rented it out. Might even consider joining a club if it was that close, oh and the F1 race would be nice to

There has been a lot of discussion about bringing back F1 to the west coast.
Major rumors are that Long Beach is at the top of the short list. Second to that is a night race in Vegas.

I happen to know who the architect is on this project. There are about 5 potential sites in the Cochella Valley that they are looking at and it will be a mixed use (offroad, road racing, karting, etc. track complex) I saw a rough development design about 7 months ago. I'll see if he has any new info.

If this comes to fuition it will be such a huge win in so many ways for race fans and drivers alike.

But in the words of Yogi, "it ain't over till it's over". The realist in me will believe it when I'm standing on the asphalt of this proposed track. The dreamer in me can't wait to drive it and possibly even see an F1 race there.

Bernie E said 2010 for the next US GP. That's not a lot of time to put together a track built to F1 specs not to mention the $200 Million to $300 Million to fund it. Until then I have toes fingers and everything else crossed hoping for this to happen.

I wish it would happen, but everyone and their mother will road block it. :banghead:

I heard about this project earlier this year as a "motorsports complex", not an F1 venue east of Indio in the Coachella Valley. It was supposed to be what an earlier poster said, regarding road course, kart track, drag strip, off road course, etc. When I asked about the specifics, i.e. has the land been purchased, environmental studies completed, the answers were yes the land was already owned by the developer and there was no need for the environmental impact studies (which I found unbelievable). Bringing an annual F1 race would only be a bonus.

I'm with Dave, until I see it with my own eyes, I won't hold my breathe, but we can dream can't we? Image running on an FIA approved, F1 quality course..... :beerchug:

I'm sure there is *some* endangered species that will halt development!! Image

It will be interesting to see what mrondeau hears back about the project.

The rumor that I heard was that they are getting around the environmental studies and a few other roadblocks by putting this on indian land. Partial funding will be from the tribe as well as other investors. The F1 part is something that I hadn't heard. The economic feasibility studies show that a track in that area would serve the Southern California area very well and they anticipate that they would be able to host events there about 9 months a year. Keep in mind that any venture like this has a huge amount of roadblocks (pun intended) that can get this shelved. We can only hope and pray that this comes to pass!

Yes.. we all know how many times we have been lead to believe a track was going in near PALA..

Many months back, a PCA SDR person told me about a track that involved the CEO of Qualcomm?? Maybe this is it??

I also was contacted by an investment group who was looking for "management" people for a "Motorsports Club" being designed for a small town just north of Barstow on the 15? They had drawings and plans also!

2 Weekends ago while at Streets I was handed a flier for a track that I believe to be the one in Octillo Springs just over the mountains on 8 East. I'll have to see if I still have it. It was a 5x8 color brochure. I've heard that this will be another country club like track similar to Spring Mt. If I find it I'll post what information was in the brochure.

Talked to a track rep today. They are going to lay the asphalt in May, and be up and running by the fall. He mentioned promo packages, and some free track days as an introductory offer. Lodging is sketchy(35 miles away). It is about 60 miles from Searchlight,NV. So it's almost in Vegas or Laughlin.
