Formula 1 viewing at Pahrump

Postby SDGT3 on Fri Oct 03, 2008 9:59 am

Never having been to Spring Mountain, but having heard it is a fantastic track, I'm heading up next weekend for the Time Trial. I'm a HUGE F1 fan and I know alot of you guys are as well. Because of the time difference in Japan, qualifying and the race will be shown live at 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (includes pre-race show) respectively.

How many of you would want to get together at a place (Preferably with a big screen TV, food and drinks :beerchug: ) and watch it together? If you throw out some names of places in Pahrump and I get a head count, I'll call ahead and maybe reserve a spot for us. I've done this before at Willow Ranch (for a 4:00 a.m. race start from Europe) during a track weekend at Buttonwillow. Willow Ranch was nice enough to open up the back room, show the race and had a cook that took orders for breakfast all before a great day on track.

Let me know if interested! :burnout:

Here is the list of places to watch the race:

Best Western

Don't spend too much time calling them all as they are all pretty similar :beerchug:

I'll be there for awhile, but may get sleep for the TT

Could you see the tv's through the smoke? The Best Western has a sports bar with lots of tv's and I doubt there will be much competition for viewers or events, so last time they happily changed the channel.

We were watching the F1 practice sessions
Looks like we have viewing options at the Nugget or the Best Western for 9pm on Saturday

It looks like there are a just a handful of people for this. Since the Nugget is our defacto hotel, let's get together at the Nugget. When I arrive at the hotel on Friday evening, I'll make sure they will show it on a big screen and have a section reserved for us. Qualifying at 10:00 p.m. Friday night, race coverage starts at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night. EVERYONE please remember to wear your Ferrari gear... please..... :beerchug:

Couldn't help it :surr:

A few diehards (OK Jad and I)stayed up to watch the end of the F1 race at the Best Western. Interesting race but hard to follow without the commentary in the sports bar. Made for a long day on Saturday with an early start on Sunday. I am still trying to catch up on missed sleep.
Alonso wins again but Hamilton makes another mistake on the first lap and is then punted by Massa who somehow is able to get 8th place, the FIA (Ferrari International Assistance) is still active :banghead:

Massa ended up 7th. The FIA (Ferrari International Assistance) penalized (I think 5 places) Sebastian Bourdais for not pulling over enough to avoid contaact with Massa. This moved Massa up one place to 7th. I can understand since Bourdais was only over to the line on the right side of the track while exiting the pits with no more room left. I guess he should have stopped to let the Ferrari go by. He has a Ferrai engine too!! :banghead:

Massa did get a drive through for punting Lewis but they also gave Lewis a drive through for his turn 1 incident on the start.

Bourdais was penalized 25 secs which dropped him a few spots down allowing MAssa to salvage 2 points :)

Damn, it was worse than I thought.

I don't know where Bouradis was supposed to go coming out of the pits :banghead:

But obviously if he slowed down a Ferrari it was going to cost him :burnout:

From what I saw I thought Massa ran into Bourdais. Massa was driving bumper cars in Japan. Who else did he hit that we didn't see? So lets see now, Massa picked up 2 points when Lewis was penalized, plus the 4 points lewis lost due to the pnalty plus one additional point by hitting Bourdais. By my math (not my strong point) Massa is behind Lewis by 5 pts. If we correct this by removing the FIA additional points then Massa would be 12 points behind Lewis. Seems fair to me he has the additional 7 pts. :banghead: I hope Lewis wins the championship just to show them he can beat all the drivers and the FIA's efforts to make sure Ferrari wins. The FIA is like parents at youth sporting event. The kids do fine until the parents (FIA) get involved. Let them drive the damned cars and stay out of it. I'm off the soapbox now, sorry. China this week. I'm hoping for a good race. :)
