Group Purchase Discount?

Howdy all:

A fellow "golden era" 911 owner and I are looking at rehab'ing our air conditioning system in time for next summer (yeah, about a year away). We are thinking of updating to the newer refridgerant, and upgrading the system components to include:

- New condensors (mine to be located in the left-rear fender with fan)
- New compressors
- New evaporators
- New dryers
- New lines and seals as needed

His is a mid 80's 3.2 Carrera and I have an '83 SC. He thought, with the economic downturn being what it is, and being the end of summer, we might want to pool our resources with a couple of other people and do a "group" purchase to try and save some dough. Power in numbers, right?

My friend has a brother in Texas, the very town that Rennair is located in. He thought we might present an offer to
Rennair to purchase multiple units at a discount price. He would pick up the units the next time he visits Texas (coming up in a few months) and bring them home for us.

So, we thought we'd check out there in "hot 911 land" for anyone interested in updating their air-con systems in 1978 to 1989 year-model 911's. Any interest? You guys and gals tired of "somewhat cool air" air-con systems? What are your thoughts? Tech'ie types, any input?

Okay, I just couldn't help myself and I pray for forgiveness but..

Air conditioning for Dan? I remember once being told that if one can successfully find a way to vent body heat via an uncovered head that one would be significantly cooler than one would be with either a hat or a full head of hair...

So -- air conditioning for Dan?

It's specifically for the under-the-collar area

:roflmao: Good one. Now ... being that I've been "folicly challanged" since 1979 .... uh, yeah, I've never heard that one before. :?

FYI: Some of my favorite "hair" jokes:

- "Yeah, I have thin hair .... but who wants FAT hair?"
- " I'm not bald. I was only supposed to be 6' 0" tall ... I just outgrew my hairline."
- " You need a lot of manure beneith your scalp to grow a good crop of hair."
... and finally, from my Mom: "Dear, God gave you a beautiful head ... and to the rest of the men he gave hair." :? Thanks, Mom ...

CORRECT! The bain of being CDI's.

I put a Rennair system in my car in FEB. R-134, desert duty front condenser, new serpentine evaporator, all new barrier hoses, a pro-cooler and an under dash vent. I have had to turn it down several times this summer. I get about 34 degrees at the vents on a hot day.

Does anyone else wonder if all this discussion of hair is just a ruse to deflect attention from Dan's real intent? The I-class is getting pretty competitive and I suspect that Dan is looking for a clever loop-hole in the competition rules to gain an advantage over Steve Grosekemper (hard to do when Steve is so well versed in the rules).

But I find nothing in the Zone 8 rules that would give Dan extra points for his air-conditioner modifications. Look for air conditioning vents in Dan's wheel wells to cool those over heated tires of his.

I think he is going to run the cold air into the intake for more HP...
Dan are you sure you want to add even more weight to the back of that car?
For comparison I get about 45 degrees out of my well maintained factory A/C system.
And my windows work nicely as well...Top down for maximum cooling.

I've been eyeing the same setup, but have gone back and forth on the cost. If I could save a few bucks, that might sway me. If we could schedule a Saturday, line up everyone's cars, and cooperate on the installs, that might sway me even more.
