Two years ago John Simone expertly rebodied my 69 911.
Mine's the one on the right.

But lately I thought a vintage shape might be fun for street touring So Cal back roads.

So I brought home a 74 RSR body kit.

Remember back 5 years ago to John Simone's drop dead red RSR?
It's been two years and I am thrilled to have the 911 back at John Simone's garage.
Here's a couple of photos after a couple of days work.

What color should we paint it.

This wine red/no metalic is on the list...

Mark Tyler at Qualtech in Misson valley will be handeling all the paint agan.

So help me out and suggest a color for the 74 RSR.
What color would look best for a street RSR with gold wheels?

I think that the Ferrari burgundy would look stunning.

Mike, Mike, Mike ... I love what you've done with your retirement.

As for color ideas, maybe you should look up the photos of the IROC 911 series they had at Riverside Raceway back in the 70's. There were some cool colors back then: Viper Green, Triple Black, a Blue, a Yellow, etc.

Of course, I'd paint it black since it would complement the wheels nicely, but you already have a black 911 with flairs (Turbo look, anyway) so maybe that's redundant. Is there any reason not to go with white? Afterall, you'll be swapping out panels for street and track, yes? You could go all white, and since you won't have A/C, maybe it'll help keep you cool on those East County roads?

I love the new body style. Paint it either white or the Ferrari burgundy.I like the white and green body style too. I have one request.

Bring the car to the track so we can see it in action and talk to you in person. That car was built to drive, with whatever body style. Come and play with us. You need to drive it. Come to Buttonwillow in Nov. You know you'll have a blast driving and making excuses with the rest of as to why Jad, Kris and Martin are faster than us.

I like the white and green body style too.

My understanding is, the pan will be the base of two "modular" set-ups: the "70's" look, and the "993" look. He'll have 2 cars in one. So, basing it in white might complement both?

Are you still going with the "modular" idea, Mike?

Now obviosly my first paint color suggestion would be Toyota (smurf) blue.
But we all know there can only be one smurf car, atleast in San Diego.

One of my favorites has always been Viper Green.

Blood Orange would look nice as well

I know the BBS wheels are period correct, but I think there are 917/RSR Replica wheels and knock off kits out there that would really make the car look great.

If you go with the 917 wheels...I like the look of "black" for them, just like Erik's post.

I like that deep rear wheel barrel!
Rears 15x14 inches wide with a 10 inch deep barrel, like the 917.

Orange and to little lesser degree other bright impact colors get the most votes.
Mark K and Randy Wells (freelances 911 features) both said orange too.
1 Jaeger header, now I can't own an orange car.
Quesnel is immune to it, I'm not.

Erik I like the old Lewis shade of Viper green.
Is that photo lime green/chartreuse?

Great idea- Went out early Sunday morning. Took Lyons Valley to Descanzo and beyond. If you need a driving fix or to get back in touch with how good a Porsche really is, east county roads are the ticket.
