"Hump Day" Kart Racing Series

I figured I'd start a new thread so the message wouldn't be buried at the back of another thread.
THIS IS THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT of THE HUMP DAY KART RACING SERIES, the second and fourth Wednesday at KI speed in Carlsbad, 6:30-10:00 pm.
If you're like me, once a month track events just don't fill the void, so here's a convinient way we can satisfy our competitive instinct to bump and grind on one another at speed. It sure beats the hell out of watching TV.
All who are brave enough to take to the track at the same time as me be prepared to have your butts whipped.......or triumphantly spin me into the wall
Shoes suitable for driving recommended, and you can bring your own helmet if you don't want to wear the loaners.
Three races cost $50 (don't you wish our Porsche track cars were as cheap to run?) and they go about 45 mph, which feels like 80 on the tight, grippy indoor track. They're real race kart chassis with electric motors, so you have to put heat in the tires before pushing hard and so on. You can rub on your competitor, spin him, and push him into the (padded) wall, and just like NASCRAP, it's all legal if you don't get caught.

It's close racing, and highly addictive fun.



Official discliamer: Kart racing is frowned upon by PCA. Indeed Kart racers are seen as sub humans who probably arent' house trained. This series is in no way sanctioned or insured by PCA, it was all my idea.

I'm in if you can just change one thing. 1st Wednesday of the month is our PCA SDR Board Meeting. Some of us attend on a regular basis for many of the same reasons that Kart racing is so much fun (high speed spins, boucing off of walls, jockeying for position, etc.) I suggest 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. Looking forward to a rematch.

I just looked at their page and they're CLOSED between 6:45 and 7:45 tonight. This must have been booked today, as it didn't show this morning.
Do we want to race later (they are open till 10)or reschedule?

That makes for a late night for those of us in El Cajon. I'm going to be up in that area in about an hour. I'd prefer not to wait until 8 to race. There's always Miramar. I vote for reschedule.

Well, only Mark and I managed to uphold the PCA flag (where was everyone else?) but uphold it we did.
Mark and I had the track to ourselves the first race and had a great time banging against each other inches or less apart (we're very closely matched skill wise, and that makes for the most fun). Mark finished ahead after I spun late in the race.
The second time out there were ~8 other guys, and we started at the back. After passing/lapping everyone else we battled and I barely won this round after Mark tangled with backmarkers.
At this point Mark had to go ( ) but the cool thing about Miramar Speed Circuit is the winner of a race gets the next race free, and I didn't have to leave, so.....about then a bunch of Mitsubishi eclipse guys showed up. One guy was Ok, but I lapped most of them twice.
The next group of victims were Asian guys driving slammed Acuras. I started last again and lapped them all.
Then a bunch of moving cones arrived in Mustangs. Same story, but these guys were mostly a lot faster than the first three groups.
In all I got in 70+ laps and only had to pay twice. My best time was a 34.055. I could taste 33's but just couldn't quite get there, and left dog tired with a free race unused.
This morning I woke up sore (Karts beat you to death) but remembering how fun it was.
Now if only I could convince some more of my fellow PCA racers (and racer-ettes) to attend, it could be a real war, complete with the torturing of prisoners. These karts are all about momentum and require real skills to go fast (hello...spec people...you listening?)

As Dave said, it was a lot of fun. When it was just the two of us, we turned consistent times of 34.xx except for a few laps when we were banging each other into the walls or trying to spin the other driver. My best time was a 34.036. When some other drivers finally showed up, we took em to school.

It's a lot harder to get a clean lap with people blocking the track. It's very difficult to pass unless somebody makes a mistake and you have to anticipate that mistake correctly. I'd like to see some more PCA drivers out there.
